  • Biden just pledged to shut down the border if the GOP will allow him to do it. He's supporting Netanyahu through its genocide in Gaza. He's anti-Medicare for All. He signaled to all his wealthy donors that "nothing fundamental will change" and has stuck by that pledge.

"More progressive than we thought" is not the same as being actually progressive. He's had to move that way in part because the policy positions have become so popular.

But I'm done arguing with you. I'll let you get the last word.

  • "Donald Trump and his far-right 'holy war' against Taylor Swift could cost him the next presidential election."

News from a completely normal and not broken at all timeline. Imagine reading that sentence to someone 10 years ago.

  • And yet, democracy itself is on the ballot. I don’t want Joe Biden to be my nominee, but I also realize that Trump is the absolute collapse of America. It’s letting our basest instincts and lesser demons overcome the promise of what we could be.

I don’t care that he’s old and moderate and held dumbass positions in the past. Biden is what is standing between order and chaos. Stability and collapse.

One candidate openly supports lawlessness and fascism for his own personal gain. The other is an old yellow dog Democrat who governs from the center right. It sucks, but the right thing is showing up for Biden IF you vote in a swing state.

If you don’t vote in a swing state, vote hard down ballot, then do whatever for president. It doesn’t really matter.

  • Those for whom religion makes “some or a great difference” in their lives experienced around half the increase in unhappiness seen in those for whom religion makes little or no difference

Religious/spiritual beliefs give context to tragedies and instill a greater sense of purpose overall. It's no surprise that someone who truly believes in a spiritual force greater than themselves, that is active in people's lives, is better able to handle the stresses of crises. A sincere belief in a deeper meaning to events and the existence of a higher purpose to life, even though its nature is unknown and possibly unknowable, i.e. faith, gives a person's mind a firm foundation that can help through hard times.

  • The election year eternal immigrant caravan strikes again. I get the move politically, but it’s unfortunate the GOP is so much better at messaging and controlling public focus than the Dems. They have no answer but to play the game on Republican terms.

  • Not ideal, but the reasoning behind it could be practical. If the ICJ demands a ceasefire, Israel will ignore it completely and keep doing what it's doing. Netanyahu has already said so multiple times. Ordering that measures be taken to limit civilian deaths and allow more aid could result in at least some compliance that would help alleviate the suffering in Gaza.

  • A fallible state institution that has made many documented mistakes in the past is still given the power to murder prisoners who are in its custody and under its protection. It’s barbarous.

America is hellbent on the concept of punishing criminals over rehabilitation while also having an objectively unfair justice system. The cruelty is the point sometimes, and it’s very unfortunate that people still think this way.

  • If you live in a swing state and are thinking about placing an anti-Biden protest vote, please remember that 90,000 people in Florida voted for Ralph Nader in 2000. Al “An Inconvenient Truth” Gore would have been President back when we could do something meaningful about climate change.

    Please don’t do it again.

  • America was founded in a rebellion against tyranny. Conformity was for royalists, who undermined the revolution and some of whom later served as spies or fought with the British Empire.

These people wave flags and pretend they embody American ideals when they’ve never even understood those ideals, much less even made an effort to live up to them.
