  • You can alternatively put a tariff of 20% on Coles and Woolworths.

So, every 5th item is free and you don't need to scan that.

  • There's one-off, cash grabbing sales of public assets, many of which are short-sighted and stupid.

Then there is the sale of the Darwin port, which added a whole other level of stupid on top.

Everyone involved with it should be forced to do the Game of Thrones walk of shame.

  • The rule of thumb for exotics/classics is that you should budget the same amount as the purchase price for maintenance.

That excludes insurance, which is usually at least 10% of the purchase price per year.

It also excludes depreciation, and mileage on exotics/classics is a killer.

Taking the above into account, I'd only think about a Maserati as a disposable car lol

  • Mmmmm. Have Canadians considered that these USAians might try to enter their country?

They may need to look at ways to prevent this, idk, maybe like building a wall? Or tariffs. Tariffs work for everything, though I don't really know what they are and can only spell it because of autocorrect.

  • BTW, if anyone wants to give up smoking, I highly recommend Allen Carr's book 'Easy way to stop smoking'. I know a couple of 20+ year smokers that tound it helpful when they decided "I've had enough, it's time!"

You can find PDF's available for free to download or borrow, eg at the Internet Archive

I'd avoid the Allen Carr site as content appears quite recent, is expensive, and Allen Carr died in the early 2000s.

  • Sometimes I wonder if the real.addiction isn't the government addiction to the tax revenue on smoking products.

Has the price for a pack risen because they are trying to disincentivise smokers, or because there are less smokers,so they raise the tax to keep the revenue flowing.

  • Exactly! Jesus Christ, I thought this was a betoota article!

  • Gambling companies, advertisers, sponsors and sporting public:

    "BUT DID THEY WIN?"

  • My summary of the summary above: TLDR

My summary of any Diary of a CEO video: TLDW

Seriously, if you followed all the advice in those videos, firstly you'd have no time to do anything because every video tells you to spend 5 minutes to an hour a day on doing X, secondly, you'd either be eating everything or nothing because the health videos say everything is a superfood or poison, thirdly you're only poor because you have no money and fourthly, let's add in some neo buzzword word salad to make things sound smart.

It's just a British sounding Joe Rogan Experience

  • Well, I guess I'm technically a winner. From what I can tell, nothing substantial.

The most significant may actually be the Doctors & PBS increased funding, though I've been lucky on the health side of things so far.

Things are tough for a lot of people, and I hope those who really need it get something in the budget that really helps them.

  • I just saw a Trumpettes of Patriots TV ad that had Tucker Carlson in it.

Tucker was on stage with Clive saying how billionaires are bad and do nothing for you. But you needed Clive, you needed rich people on your side.

WTF? All I could think of was "This ad has been authorised by cookers, for cookers"

  • Aren't there like a billion studies that show that lower teacher:student ratios improve outcomes for both educators and students?

What are they proposing? You have one qualified educator and a couple of rando's for 50 kids?

Oh hang on, I get it. You could use unqualified overseas 'special skills' visas who will take half minimum wage cash in hand.

Or even better! Use au-pairs who will just be paid board and food! Dutton knows all about au-pairs and granting them visas!

  • The NSW Libs even shutdown Sydney nightlife to funnel everyone to the Star Casino. That didn't save them in Sydney.

Packer's Pecker took the high rollers, and it's barely different from any club, pub, or rsl. And some of those are significantly nicer environments.
