  • Hmm, I would only purchase them as a third (or more) layer of redundancy, or maybe for storing things like ripped media that could just be re-ripped (or re-torrented) should the drives fail. I would not trust them for anything important since you have no idea what kind of environment they were in for all those years.

  • Personally, I haven't run into a situation where I could only configure something via UI. There's always been an option to toggle between a UI editor, and just a text editor for the appropriate YAML. There could be exceptions that I haven't encountered, but they're definitely few and far between.

  • Ive never actually seen an open-ended slot though, and OP had to use a Dremel to open his. Probably for the exact reason that OP added the kapton tape, because it would be stupidly easy to short out those exposed pins.

  • Yeah it's a weird thing to say. Google pays Mozilla a HUGE amount of money to be Firefox's default search engine. Although the main reason they're happy to pay so much for that is that they WANT to keep at least one Chrome competitor alive, so they don't end up in an anti-trust shitfest like Microsoft did with Internet Explorer.

  • Interesting, I just read that they're opening beta testing of the ability to add all add-ons to Firefox Android again. I wonder if that's why this works, the support is already built into the beta/nightly versions of the app and changing your user agent just bypasses whatever checks they have to ensure you're enrolled in the beta test.

Maybe that's why you can't find any information about this and why it only works in the recent developer versions of the app.

  • If possible, maybe try dual booting a Windows install just to test if the games run better there. If they do, it's probably a problem with your system or your configuration, but if not, it's likely your hardware. Might also want to look at your BIOS settings and see if something somehow got reset there, like your RAM clock.

  • I mostly agree, but then I think about how I have a Samsung phone but can still use Google Wallet instead of Samsung Pay because it's an open ecosystem. They both push their own products, but the end user is ultimately able to use whatever product they want. This is clearly not the case for Apple, which is what I'm guessing the case is about.

  • To be fair, I'm guessing the majority of Pi's are used headless anyway. Plus even the older Optiplexes have DVI, which is just HDMI without the audio or fancy stuff like ARC. Won't be getting 4K or anything, but still a very good video output and IMO adequate for almost all use cases.

  • Well yeah. The concensus at the time was that light is a wave, and waves need a medium to travel through, so they just made up some stuff that must be everywhere and called it the aether. The null result of the interferometer experiment is part of what led to the discovery that light is a particle that acts like a wave, and so doesn't need a medium.

  • Well, yes, as far as our theories go. But we also "knew" that light was a wave that traveled through the luminiferous aether, which permiated all of space... Until we tested that theory with the Michelson-Morely experiment, and it turned out our theories were completely wrong and physics as we knew it was completely upended.

Point being, it's important to actually test our theories instead of assuming they're completely correct just because most of their predictions are accurate.

  • Unfortunately, even OpenAI themselves took down their AI detection tool because it was too inaccurate. It's really, REALLY hard to detect AI writing with current technology, so any such addon would probably need to use a master list of articles that are manually flagged by human.

  • "Soy boy" is commonly used by MAGAs as a derogatory term to mean a feminine man. There was some rumor about how soy could mimic estrogen in the body (not really true) and so they believe that eating soy products makes men feminine. This is obviously bullshit, but maybe it's somehow spiraled from "real men shouldn't eat soy" into "no one should eat soy"
