  • I don't think it's unspecified, it's to keep weeds away. Using weed killing chemicals to kill off any plants in your field apart from the specially-weed-killer-resistant crops is super common in agriculture, and is terrible for the environment.

You seem to be against the idea of growing rice in flooded fields, can I ask why? It's not like this is in some places like California that's in constant drought.

  • Dude if you think that someone might scrape your finger print from a random image post, recreate a physical model of it, hunt you down in real life, and steal your phone to unlock it.... You probably should be seeking political asylum because you're being hunted down by the Kremlin or a similar entity.

My point being, unless you're wanted by a governmental power, a photo with fingerprints is probably not a real risk. Gotta make a realistic threat model, otherwise there's no way to tell what's reasonable privacy considerations vs. paranoia.

  • I mean, as far as I know, DNS is decentralized. Anyone can host their own DNS server, or change which server their network/device uses. Google's is just very commonly used because 8.8.8.8 is easy to remember, but there are thousands of others run by entities big and small, and there's nothing stopping you from running your own (assuming you manage to get a hold of a static IPv4)

  • Not sure where you're located, but at least in the USA it's definitely illegal for an employer to discriminate against a medical diagnosis like that. They aren't even allowed to ask you private medical questions during the hiring process.

  • Do you have a static IP address? CG-NAT has done a really great job of hindering torrents, since my understanding is that at least one side of the connection needs to have an open port. So, if you don't, then only the few people who do are able to download from you, which can make it seem like no one wants your stuff.

  • I would not bother archiving the mainstream releases that can already be found on many torrent sites (like, you don't need to archive Star Wars or Lord of the Rings) and focus on the bootleg disks first. You just need any standard DVD drive, then use Handbreak to rip the disks to a video file. For official releases, many of them have forms of copy protection, but 15 minutes on Google should tell you how to get around any you come across.

Also, for reference, "burning" a DVD is writing data to a disk, so the opposite of what you're trying to do.

  • If you tried to get your newborn daughter a labiaplasty so that she would be "more appealing to boys once she's old enough", you would rightfully be scolded and kicked out of every respectable medical practice you asked at. It's fucking gross to be sexualizing a literal newborn like that, and yet I used to regularly see people on Reddit use that as a good reason to circumcise your son.

And any "hygiene" justification is just grasping at straws. Do we cut off people's ears so they don't have to spend 30 seconds cleaning them every day? No. Just teach your kids how to clean themselves and it's a non-issue.

  • Why would you need to block apps installing from non-Play Store sources? You shouldn't be plugging your phone into mysterious USB ports, and the OS should always prompt you before installing a local .apk file. If you're savvy enough to use F-Droid, you're savvy enough to not need that hand-holding "safety" feature.

  • I mean, it's about as permanent as you can get within the US's political system. It's not really up for "interpretation" like Roe v. Wade, it's literally just "the State Constitution has changed so this law is now unconstitutional". If a future judge(s) were to overrule this, it would be blatantly and objectively partisan, which is a much bigger deal with state courts than it is Federal ones

  • Yeah. It turns out that the "Alpha" and "Omega" wolves are just... The parents of the pack. It's got nothing to do with the Alpha being macho or assertive or anything like how it's been portrayed for decades.

The researcher who first published his faulty observations has been trying to correct the public consciousness for years, but it's really hard to undo something that was taught so widely

  • It boils down to chemistry. The nickle-metal-hydride chemistry used in rechargeable batteries just don't produce 1.5V (explaining why is a lot more complicated), while the alkaline chemistry in non-rechargable batteries produces slightly more volts. In the same vein, lithium-ion batteries produce around 3.6V, while lead-acid produce about 12.4V.

To answer your other question, they should be able to power most things that aren't an analog clock (which might run slightly slow).
