The Trump administration’s controversial arrest and attempt to deport Columbia University graduate student and pro-Palestine activist Mahmoud Khalil this month prompted a viscerally personal reaction from John Oliver in this week’s monologue for Last Week Tonight.
“Maybe you feel different about the Israel-Palestine conflict than Khalil does. Maybe you don’t agree with the things that I’ve said about it,” Oliver said. “But if someone can be deported as a green card holder for speech in support of Palestine, or anything this administration objects to—that should chill you to the bone.”
A short time later, however, he said he was approached by an usher who politely told him that the hat he was wearing is in contravention of their “rule against political statements.”
A rule like this is so vauge and open to interpretation. Honestly anything could be turned political if you wanted it to. Wearing a American hat belive it or not thrown out.
Okay, so just trying to understand your point here. So question, if a person (or yourself) immigrated legally, and was a green card holder/legal citizen, you are saying they should have nothing to fear as them being deported would never happen?
What's concerning is that this chat more then likely is not the first signal group chat used/created. It's only the first one to have leaked, so far.
I wonder how many other congruent signal group chats are active at this current moment. Or how many past signal group chats were formed and records destroyed?
Cars need lots of space. Streets and roads need to be wide, and parking lots are needed when cars are not in use.
These factors push everything far apart. If you think of North American shopping plazas in suburban areas, they are generally large empty spaces with parking lots between stores.
If you want to cross the street or road to the Walmart or HomeDepot in the plazza accross the one you are in, you generally need to drive or walk 20 min or more, and you need to walk to a main intersection with pedestrians signals, good luck trying to cross 4-6 lanes of suburban traffic with shopping bags.
Let alone, local transit stops are located outside the plaza's at a major intersection generally with a 15min walk to the store entrance.
The urban planning is extremely inefficient and poor.
