  • Growing up, my family had a Welby mantel clock, and I wanted to create a replica of it. I had mostly completed the design when I discovered that someone had actually already made one. So I started over with an original design inspired by the Welby but also incorporating elements of Weimar clocks. The design is parametric, so I can easily alter the shape if I want.

Printed on a Bambu P1S, 0.2mm layer height. Designed to not need any supports. Printed with what I had on hand - the outer shell is Hatchbox wood PLA, the face is Sunlu black PLA+, and the “brass” inlay, hands, and feet are eSun gold silk PLA.

I threw in a cheap clock movement from the craft store, and voila!

  • The tiles do affect the ball movement slightly but the tolerances are small enough to be acceptable for what this is - a desktop toy. I’ve been playing with this at work all week and the real fun is in building. It has definitely been a huge hit at my office!

  • I doubt that there would be enough contributors for it to ever catch on. But I did design this with expandability in mind (it’s basically a miniaturized Gridfinity knock-off). Maybe I will publish the specs and/or a tile template…
