  • Hello :)

This looked promising, thank you for the hint ! However, the format is probably not what Glance is expecting (ndjson) so there is no way to query the expected key and throws the following error: invalid response JSON !

This would have been so nice and easier than to mess around with a database and postgREST haha ! I think I going to stop here as it gets kinda messy and out of my personal comfort... Maybe in the near future there will be someone adding a widget who knows xD Myself I'm not able to do so... Will probably give also AI a try with copilote as mentioned by another user see if I get better results.

My "half-baked" solution involves a postgREST database container which gets it's query from my bash script send via curl... It somehow works for simple queries like "Backup failed" but as soon as they are some special characters (from stderr), it just breaks...

  • Hey thanks for your answer ! Yeah probably AI would be a good fit in this little scenario but I don't have the necessary credits to ask something like this. However yesterday, I found out about postgREST and while this is totally out of my league (never touched a database in my life...) Spinning up the docker container with my own domain was easy enough :).

Their tutorial 0 - Get it running was easy to follow for a simple database and even tho it took me the whole day to make it work to my liking. After a lot of trial and error, it does updated my Glance instance with my script's error message ! *Yeahhhhhi !!

While this isn't a direct native link to NTFY, it does work and is simple enough to keep it up. But adding a bit more complexity to it and everything falls apart... Not sure if I will diver deeper in that rabbit hole right now, because working with databases is a whole world on it's own and have why to many other project on hold right now...

  • Yeah... People are like this... It's All fake news until it isn't anymore and than everyone is Pikachu Faced...

After all they have done and still doing... I can ASSURE and GUARANTEE you with 100% certitude that they would NEVER do that... They are not that kind of evil. /s

    Sigh 😮‍💨😮‍💨

  • Yeah, than you have nothing to worry I guess? I'm not versed into all this legal shit whatsoever...

However if you intend to use the arrstack (sonarr, radarr...) to download and manage your own video library (netflix like), I'm not so sure they will agree on it.

  • Sure if you only intend to stream your pets RPi webcam nothing to worry :) ! But don't even get into streaming illegal content you don't own !

I mean, your jellyfin instance is not going to be hooked to a Arr stack, is it?

  • Yeah, if you self-host only for yourself you lose the privacy feature public instances provide. The purpose when self-hosting is to watch youtube with no-ads, sponsor block...

As you guessed it, YouTube went on frontend crusade and only a few public instances remain (if any?) and those who still work are kinda janky, unstable.

If privacy is an important feature you're looking for, you need to wait until those btillant people behind those frontend find a working workaround :)

  • They are the same thing (YouTube self-hosted frontend alternative) with their own features I guess?

You should test Piped, Indivious and Viewtube and make your own opinion, however Viewtube has been paused so this one is probably not going to have the SABR workaround update Piped and Invidious are working on ?

Right now they are all a bit janky and unstable because of YouTube's new update (SABR, don't know the details) so find one that works as self-hosted and keep tuned.

If you're able to contribute as a dev though, give them some help to speed up the process and contribute to the best YouTube frontend alternatives projects !

  • Hey thanks for asking I had the same question !!

A solution I would like is an automated way to poison my old data and edit all my old post, change image and edit all my comments with something non related and totally false.

After some digging, their api is very limited and doesn't allow such thing very easily. My programming skills beeing very limited I gave it a try with AI (yeah I know this is kinda "hypocrite" but we have to fight their empire with their own weapons...) and found out about a very cool tool you can selfhost and give instruction to execute this kind of operation in an automated way with AI !

It's called browser use and it's the open source alternative to ChatGPT operator. I haven't tried it yet so I can't give you any feedback but If that's something you have the horse power for you can give it a try to slowely poison and edit all your facebook data without hitting their limit or their alert !

  • I really wan't to give Asahi a try, however I read alot about power mangement taking a big hit ! This makes me reluctant to give it a try on my M1.Maybe for the next big wipe on my laptop?

Either way, congratulation and thank you for all you work on allowing to get rid of Apple's closed ecosystem !

  • There are solutions though... Yes, it's not native and adds some little extra work but it's already possible: https://docs.goauthentik.io/integrations/services/jellyfin/

I haven't tried it though, it's on my todo list and saved bookmark, just though I would share :)

An other solution would be to make a tiny wireguard server and make a VPN to your homeserver. Just put something like a bananaPi (or something else) into your grandparents house :) they won't see any difference !

A plus could be to even add your own dns+pihole onto their network and block some of those nasty ads :) !

  • There is... But it's miles away from beeing a private clear net tracker though. That's why I have high hopes people would switch to I2P and the likes :/ but that doesn't going to happen any time soon... They all feel too comfortable in their paywalled wallet garden.

  • I have seen better long term seeding on some rare stuff on public trackers than private trackers.

I do agree on the sentiment that the actual piracy community is turned into some cash grab milking thing to the limit where if you don't buy a seedbox you will not have a great time competing angainst other seeders on some private trackers !

The best thing that could happen is that everything gets shifted to i2p or similar tech, away from private trackers and the government !

  • Very cool project, thank you ! I will give it a try on my next bike escapade !
