  • Wait again?! It's only been like 4 days since the last time lol.

  • That's so true lol. Long story below but it deals with a fuck up some mods did with the old/new rules & automod.

I once had to deal with a major fuck up that the previous mods left me as they all fucked off to mod the next version of the console the subreddit was for. On the day they added me and two others, they practically said bye and good luck but didn't give us any control of the sub. They never touched the sub & the two other new mods quit or didn't touch the sub too. Was fun to be the sole mod with a subreddit of 5 million people for like 5 months....

The issue was that on the day before the old team fucked off, one of them changed the automod to automatically remove any post that dealt with support. It was set up that so the "support help" flair that any user could pick, would trigger the automod to remove it and then warn the user they would be banned if they didn't post it in the correct support thread.

Buuuuut the automod stated the rule wrong compared to the New Reddit version and mobile app people were flocking to modmail freaking out that they were about to be banned for trying to ask help to fix their console. AND it never stated what support thread or gave a link to it which made everyone ask on modmail for that too.

I had to deal with hundreds of modmails alone while learning how to code automod since the old mod refused to fix it even though I stated how people were freaking out. Thankfully I got help from somebody else that gave me tips on automod and how to correctly code it.

It turned out the automod was only stating the old.reddit rules and nobody had changed the new.reddit rules to match it. I used RIF to mod so I only saw the old sidebar lol.

I wanted to say all that because i realized that experience I had with basically being left to hang is how all these new mods probably have been for the last two months. All these features with no help or support from past mods would suck so much. I eventually snapped and called out all the old mods for how shitty they were for leaving one of the biggest subreddits on Reddit to a single person before leaving the team.

End of the long story lol. Sorry for making you read all that 😆 I just really hate how the new.reddit format can fuck up sooooo much shit.

  • I remember Reddit 13 years ago and it really was a different place. The whole calling it an app was something that annoyed me too lol.

I also still remember my first reddit experience was BaconReader on the Windows 7 phone lmfao. I'm old.

  • Oh lmao I see 😂 I'm replying from my inbox and somehow didn't see it was removed. Funny that we can still have a conversation through an already deleted thread by doing this lol.

  • I was talking about the person in the picture you posted. I didn't even notice your name lol. I wish I did because Teft is one of the best from stormlight!

  • Oh lol thanks for clearing that up. For some reason I was looking at the username in the picture trying to figure out how it dealt with the Wheel Of Time character lmao.

Completely glossed over the commenters DS9 username. Patrick and the rest of them made that episode so funny.

  • Thank God I wasn't the only one who went WTF. That's like one of the simplest things I learned as a mod in my first 2 days. You gotta update the sidebar twice for both versions of it. It's been over a month since they probably took over and they still don't know this.

I love this article but it also makes me sad like with the old r/canning mods pointing out the unsafe material the new mods left up.

  • the anonymous Redditor pointed me to the subreddit's sidebar, which has a disclaimer about the dangers of electricity. However, the disclaimer is only visible on old Reddit. The mod doesn't know why.

Wow this is the part that made me laugh the most. One of the first things I learned when as a mod was that you had to change the side bar in both old.reddit and the newer version since they both have different sidebars.

I never even realized that the loss of whole mod teams could make this simple feature unknown by the new team.

  • I used to mod some big subs and saw one of the dumbest ways the admins banned someone.

So one of the mods I knew posted a video of a picture containing a microwave with Alvin & The Chipmunks photoshopped in. The video had audio of a microwave turned on with high pitched screaming too.

    https://youtu.be/MsJCTNvPZVM?si=66xVCf1ho13mIzbN

That 14 second video he posted on a sub he modded got the admins to permanently ban him across Reddit and then refuses to ever reply to him when he asked why. It was perfectly acceptable for that subreddit too.

Hell I even started a conversation with some admins for some other issues and asked them about it. They ignored that question completely lol.

I don't regret leaving that site. I do regret modding big subs tho lmao.

  • Damn I wish more vape places were like the one I go to locally. They ask people who buy the disposals to drop them off back at the shop and they then recycle all of them after the box fills up.

  • I've seen exactly how CPS can fail so I understand your editing.

My sister taught at a pre-k after school thing for a few years. They eventually got a 6 year old girl in her class. The girl began to talk about things her dad would do and stuff that no 6 year old should ever know. I won't go into detail but it was enough for my sister and any other adult to be sickened and horrified. She would also start acting sexual to any male adult at the school that she got to know.

My sister called CPS and told them they HAD to bring a lady over as the 6 year old locks down around male adults.

The fucking CPS brought a guy over and of course the little girl refused to talk. The dad found out when he picked her up that day and then vanished with their kid. Nobody heard from them again.

That was around 12 years ago so that child is now an adult and I still think about how her last 12 years could have been different if CPS did that one small thing.

CPS is a joke when you actually need them.

  • Oh lmao you right.

I was typing it from my phone so I stopped at 3 links to make it easier.

The exploring series account is fantastic! I've gone through those videos over the years and I love them. Thanks for linking it :)

  • This is sadly the first Bethesda game that hasn't held my attention. The moment I had to deal with that space combat tutorial I knew I would never want to fight in space again for how boring it felt rotating in circles to keep hitting the same button to fire locked on attacks. Nothing about that felt fun or enjoyable and then trying to fast travel and having to go through the menus was worse.

Then when i got to the first area after the prologue I kept getting my AI robot companion running into as I tried exploring. I lost count of the number of times I tried looking in corners of small rooms only for Vasco run straight up to me and push me into a corner I have to spend 1 minutes trying to jump over.

Finally New Atlantis made me ask for a refund from how horrible the map system was. Trying to explore the large place was tedious and just such a step back from all Bethesda's previous work with making the maps detailed for you to see where stuff was. Here I was just using the mission waypoints and ignoring everything else.

I had fun at the beginning but there are just many things that caused me sway my opinion into not wanting to play it again. Hopefully I can get the $32 refund for the premium shit since I don't think I'll be sticking around for the DLC.

  • That whole thing was a shit show and I somehow was able to stumble across each and every single part of it as it happened.

It all happened merely days after hexbear said Blahaj was somehow not safe for their LGBT members, so then having those new accounts pull this was so obvious as where could the users came from.

  • It's made me seen how many shortcomings Lemmy has and it's soured me too.

I just wanted a chill place like I saw when i left Reddit on July 1st and now it's just become almost as toxic here.

I can't imagine people would have flocked to this site in July if this shit was happening back then.

  • Wait did they just straight up take your post and the same title you used 2 months ago?

  • We all laughed in Blahaj when they defederated first lol. It was so childish for them to block us for being unsafe right before we were about to do it lmfao. They tried so hard to change the narrative but it failed.

I feel bad for any instance that has to deal with them in a daily bases. It makes scrolling through lemmy annoying unless you block every fucking community from them.

  • Yeah the Blahaj admin they accused of being anti-trans was trans. They knew this too. The admin has talked to them in the original post that started it all and told the troll they were trans.

The user 100% did it on purpose to insult the Blahaj admin and to then go across all of Lemmy and post how they were anti trans.

I also saw that same user tag a Lemmy.world admin to tell them to ban a trans Blahaj user for being a chaser. Then the Blahaj user got banned even though nobody was commenting on a lemmy.world post. If you wanna read that long story then click this link to my other comment here. The 2nd half of my comment there is that long story.

  • Hey if the links they showed interested you then you should try the videos people make over the stories.

YouTube channels like "SCP explained" animates the stories and they are a really great way to see what SCP is. They are super entertaining!

    https://youtu.be/TBE1pFBoiTY?si=eId7BAXY7ikepuuD

This is their introduction to SCP video that explains stuff nicely in 12 minutes.

    https://youtu.be/-GxC0FXmbYA?si=oPB5FHV7xnfo_yPa

This one is of a popular SCP called the sculpture. I played online games that used this SCP as a playable character and it's so much fun to see the other players horrified when they spotted me.

The final one here is of an IKEA. It's more entertaining than you think lol. It's gotten over 7 million views and liked by everyone I've seen.

  • I commented on here already about our instances interaction with hexbear. It's a disaster that led to somehow them defedarating from Blahaj for being not safe for their LGBT members even tho Blahaj is like one of the most accepting instance for LGBT people. Many of us were trying to ask our admin to defederate from them because those on our instance felt unsafe. Felt like a "no u" moment they tried to pull before we defederated them for not being safe for our members lol.

Then Blahaj started getting spammed by a new user who was calling a bunch of trans users anti trans. They also said our admins was anti trans even though she was openly trans. Then that user began spamming across lemmy how Blahaj and it's admin were anti-trans and should not be visited.

Also saw that user get a Blahaj user banned from lemmy.world even though nobody in that discussion was commenting on an lemmy.world community. It has a lot of shit so everything below is just that story.

What happened was another trans Blahaj user commented on a post on some 3rd instance and the OP of that post basically said "I know your reputation from elsewhere and your comment here proves your anti-trans reputation". The Blahaj user went wtf and then realized the OP was one of those commenting on the original trolls post and was basically saying the Blahaj user was anti trans. The Blahaj user was rightfully pissed and accused the OP of being an alt of that troll since they wrote in the same style as the original troll (I honestly was feeling the same as I read it all). The OP wouldn't reply and just stuff like " I refuse to reply to you" or "please don't talk to me" or "I respectfully ask you to not engage with me". It all felt trollish since that OP was the only who started the argument and now refused to engage after starting.

After the 3rd attempt at an reply , a lemmy.world admin came in saying that if the Blahaj user replied one more time to OP then they would be permanently banned from all of lemmy.world. Keep in mind this wasn't even on lemmy.world and the whole thing started because OP insulted a trans user by stating they were anti-trans. The Blahaj user was still pissed since she got insulted for saying she has the reputation of somebody who would hate everything she was and replied again. The original troll from way earlier came to the post & replied to her and tagged the lemmy.world admin saying they needed to be banned for being a chaser and replying after being told not to. Then the Blahaj user got banned.

It still feels so fucked that a lemmy.world admin would step into that 3rd instance and threaten the Blahaj user with loss of access to the biggest lemmy instance if she didn't ignore being called an anti-trans. It really helped show me the short comings of lemmy since every instances admin will probably just take what a user from their instance state as fact and ignore the other person.

Sorry for that long comment. It's just that I saw how hexbear will twist words in their favor like with claiming Blahaj isn't safe for their LGBT members and then strangely had new accounts show up calling trans Blahaj users as anti-trans and realized that it was just way too on the nose as where could these users have came from.
