  • No, she forces the rain into the Everglades camp so they have some showers....

  • The stories are, that your family will be punished horribly, if you escape.

  • It does not even need to be a majority. Actually doing it makes you more believable when you promote any sort of action. It also works as a sort of promotion in itself. As in people can see you cycle, not eat meat or have solar panels on your roof. By doing it, you also create demand for the alternative, like for example solar panels, bicycles or vegan products. That makes those alternatives easier and cheaper to purchase. It also makes it politically easier to ban something, as part of the society is not impacted at all.

In the end calling somebody an idiot, for promoting individual action due it not being an attempt to change society is just dumb. After all anybody who does that promotion tries to bring other people to do something. At that point it really is no longer the action of an individual. Honestly it really is a simple way to lobby against such actions on a bigger scale.

  • Labour had a bit more then a third of the votes, which is pretty close to were Reform is polling today. However Labour won a massive majority with those votes. If Labour wants to prevent a Reform victory they need to change the election system. It is even worse for the Tories. So long term Tory supporters will cheer them on.

  • We are heading into a feudal system of a sort. The wealth gap is absolutly massive and the only way to end up in the upper class is to inherit. As per usual the population feels that the system is unfair, but is unable to see the real problem. Media is really pushing far right talking points, as the upper class realizes that the system is broken and a real revolution is a problem. Thats how the US ended up with a de facto monarchy. The UK is moving towards that pretty quickly too.

The good news is that Labour might make some really usefull changes. Mainly end first past the post to prevent Reform from taking over. That might very well allow left wing parties like the LibDems and Greens to win more seats and change the narrative.

  • June saw a 42% collapse due to airport closures. The probably more important number is that 2023 tourism was more then three times higher then it was this year.

  • Israel has had a ceasefire for a bit. Unlike last year, when it was fighting all the time.

  • You could in theory eat whale meat, which would have even bigger bones. I do not recommend that, but certainly more possible then dinosaurs.

Ostrich eggs are a very real option.

  • You need genetic material for that and unfortunatly that does not preserve even close to well enough to clone a non avian dinosaur.

  • That requires rule of law to actually work. Putin is well known to murder problematic oligarchs. Combined with some proper blackmail, that tends to work very well.

  • The US backs Israel no matter what. However the current situation is more difficult within the EU. Suspending the trade agreement with Israel is relativly possible. At the same time Israel being convicted of genocide, would basically end any sort of moral argument made in countries like Germany. Also the US is a huge reason to be more Israel friendly and that relationship has some issues.

Israel attacking Iran was celebrated in countries like Syria too. Not exactly a rarer stance in the Arab world too.

  • The gamble just doesn’t really seem worth it.

China is not invading Taiwan. However if it comes to a war with the US, then it really has to take out Taiwan. It is just too close to the mainland, allowing for easy bombing and missile attacks, while als being able to cut off shipping from the mainland. Obviously the US likes that a lot, as it makes war against the US much more costly for China.

At the same time leaders often make horrible decisions. Just look at the US invading Iraq and Afghanistan or Russia invading Ukraine. Clearly not good wars for the countries invading, but they still did it.

  • Dolph is vegan and seems to not care about religion, but mostly stays out of politics.

  • That would turn the Democrats into a progressive party, which would have nation wide positions, proper party infrastructure in every state and some funding systems. Given how few vote for third parties, that would be a huge win for progressives.

  • Probably more important is the next paragraph:

There are a few alternative timelines. Some scholars extend the end date of the golden age to around 1350, including the Timurid Renaissance within it,[6][7] while others place the end of the Islamic Golden Age as late as the end of 15th to 16th centuries, including the rise of the Islamic gunpowder empires.

The Ottomans managed to siege Vienna centuries after the end of the Golden Age. They were not that behind in technology. Really the big change happened with the industrial revolution, which the islamic world mostly failed to implement. However at least the Ottomans managed to do a good enough job, to stand the ground against the Brits. Of the none Western world only Japan and depending on how you look at it Russia was better at adopting Western science and technology.

Iran and Moghul India did much worse though.

  • Russia could not even prevent Assad from falling to some militia with some training from Turkey, while Iran was also helping. What do you believe is going to happen, if they would try to fight another professional military? They are not even winning in Ukraine, which gets some support from Europe, while Russia has a full on war economy.
