  • I mean you might not like it but he's totally right. I stopped eating carrot cake 3 years ago and about 4 months afterwards I got in a horrific car accident. 2 people were critically injured, 2 more died and a llama was also killed. I was miraculously unharmed and the doctors said if I had even a bite of carrot cake in the months leading up to that I would have been hurt badly. Who knows how big that medical bill would have been... Thanks Dr. Oz!

  • In situations like this where it clearly won't matter, I've always seen it as basically a token vote that they pass around to whoever's turn it is. Everybody on the team gets a few votes throughout their term where they can vote against something that will pass anyway and then they can turn around later when their constituents are mad about whatever and just say "but remember? I voted against that thing you hated!"

I could of course be completely wrong but it just seems like the math just barely works out in the majority party's favor way too much to be a coincidence.

  • It's almost worse than that. I swear, some of them take a perverse pride in being led all around the political landscape like a dog with a shiny red ball. The discussions I've had where people happily and excitedly admit that Trump was completely lying to them and just hungrily accept the new story as undeniable fact is wild and impossible for me to wrap my head around.

  • I'd say they do them justice to some degree no? I quite enjoyed the first movie, it changed some stuff from the book for sure but I feel like it captured the same feel for the most part and does the story justice. Admittedly, the lost world was a bit of a mess as they combined some stuff from different books and changed the ending for the worse I'd say but Ive seen much worse adaptations in the theatre.

  • "We don't want to be bought by the federal government, thank you very much," a resident said. "We'd like the federal government to stay out of Kerr County and their money."

While the county ultimately kept the funds, they allocated the majority, about $8 million, to sheriff's department upgrades and public employee stipends

I... what? "We don't want your stinking money. We'll still take it tho... We just won't spend it on what we said we would. That'll show you dumb idgits!"

  • I feel like it's very strange to not even mention the fact that many, many of these researchers have completely lost, or will lose the grants for the research that is the entire reason for their being in the field in which they are. They literally cannot do what they are there to do anymore. in addition, many additional folks are no longer allowed to work on or publish their projects because they are centered on or use some of Trump's no-no words. There is way more than just salaries causing the brain drain out of the US right now.

  • "To fund improvements and enhanced experiences across the park system, I've just signed an executive order to raise entrance fees for foreign tourists while keeping prices low for Americans. The national parks will be about America first."

Oh thank god! After slashing over $1 billion from the nps budget and firing over 5,000 of its workers I was beginning to think this guy maybe didn't care about the national parks. What a relief!

  • "There’s nobody that’s better, smarter or a better leader than Viktor Orbán. He’s fantastic. He's a noncontroversial figure because he said, ‘This is the way it’s going to be,’ and that’s the end of it, right? He’s the boss and … he’s a great leader, fantastic leader. In Europe and around the world, they respect him."

    Donald Trump, predictably

  • It's not even a negative question really. It boils down to "what do you say to the people who disagree with what your are doing/planning on doing?"

Oooooh the horror of confronting the very idea of people disagreeing with you. What a nasty question.

  • Not OP and certainly IANAL but as far as I know there is NO law that forbids the use of masks for ICE agents. However, hiding their ID or refusing to identify themselves during detention or arrests IS illegal. However, the law states they have to show ID/identify themselves “as soon as practical and safe to do so," so they could theoretically just say they thought they'd be in danger by showing ID as flimsy of an excuse as that sounds.

However, it is rather hilarious that they are pretty much all wearing masks while the political party parading them around is currently on a very real rampage to stop pretty much anyone in public from wearing masks for any type of public demonstration or event.

  • It's theatre. Plain and simple. They just want the spectacle of unruly violent riots and the whether that happens or not, they will make it look like it happened. Nothing makes a protest look like a warzone like the literal military being there.

  • This is exactly what some of the biggest manufacturers of cars in America are thinking of doing. They manufacture in America but a lot of the parts are imported and would cost them a fortune to import. It's cheaper to move factories to China, build the full part, and then ship it over because the tarrifs are higher on the individual tech parts inside the assembly than a finished product using those parts.

  • Completely agree. There are some things ai clearly struggles very hard with but the rate at which it is improving in just about every single facet is insane. I mean just take a look at this, this was unimaginable like literally months ago. That thing is 100% ai generated. Sound, visuals, script... everything is made from a prompt in a few minutes. And we're still basically just at the infant stage. Just imagine what the hell these things will be doing in 20 or 50 or 100 years.

  • Oh they're already on it. Biden was the winner btw. When asked about how crappy the economy has been since the tarrifs he said perhaps the most expected thing possible:

"I think the good parts are the Trump economy and the bad parts are the Biden economy because he's done a terrible job."
