The AAA name drop definitely means we're getting Mephisto eventually. Maybe VisionQuest or later Wanda+ series, but making a deal with The Hood and introducing him now would also be a fun idea. Whatever the final conflict with Mephisto is, putting together a diverse (powers-wise) team makes sense and, similar to her role in Ironheart, Riri is unique and a good choice for "The Crew".
I think Chthon is linked here. I think Mephisto would make a deal to guide our heros to Chthon or Wanda. Or if it's Chthon then they run into Mephisto to make a deal to find/revive Wanda. Depends on the demon hierarchy.
Dormammu I think should be saved for Doctor Strange 3. It would be a good close out to his story. Plus Benedict Cumberbatch did the mocap for Dormammu so I always thought you could have some fun paradox story with that.
As for more demons, I'm ok with that too. I think they all lead to Mephisto and Chthon, it's just a matter of when.
To allow for a live avatar. For example when playing Mario Kart online you can see the reactions of your friends your playing with. When you hit someone with a red shell and they make a mad face, you get to see it.
Microphones have been in gaming for a while, this is just the next step.
Now... Is any of that necessary? No, not really. Is it kinda neat? Maybe for some.
No. That's why I referenced 2022 & 2023 to show that 2024 wasn't a rare exception. Looking at 2025 it does look like we are starting to trend downwards. While the two current MCU films are in the top 10 box office their numbers probably won't let them stay there by the end of the year. However July gives us the comic book film Superman, but also the MCU film Fantastic Four. If those bomb horribly then yeah, maybe people really are getting sick of comic book/superhero films.
Besides Deadpool 3 made one joke about "this being a low point". Jokes about the multiverse have been happening since the first Deadpool movie when it was just the Fox universe, so once you have access to everything, you of course make fun of everything (although even then most references stuck to Fox properties).
In addition to the cowards reasoning it's also because Paramount (parent company of CBS) and Skydance Media are trying to merge.
That deal is valued at ~8 billion dollars, so settling for a couple million in that context makes sense.
Additionally since it's a merger it requires FCC approval and Trump appointed the FCC chairman and is known to meddle in things.
So these companies are trying to play nice with Trump so they can merge.
Basically paying $20 to make this go away is the cost of doing business. Corruption all the way.
Florence Pugh , like the great Patrick Stewart before her, "acting".
Sure but that's still only planned for two seasons. The show runner, the creative, made that decision. Andor was great and I'd have loved to see more, but if the creator decided that their five year plan wasn't worth it, then I trust that they made the right decision.
the general slide in popularity of the rest of the Marvel franchise. Very easy to review bomb a movie that nobody else is interested in watching, because the genre and the franchise is utterly played out.
While I agree there has been a decrease, to say no one is watching is an overstatement.
Deadpool & Wolverine was #2 at the Box Office for 2024. Marvel films were also in the top 10 in 2023 and 2024. Currently in 2025 Marvel films are in the top 10, although they would likely fall off by years end (but also Fantastic Four, so TBD).
The audience, as a whole, is interested. I understand that many people have stopped watching and that's fine, but just because you have stopped because you don't like it, doesn't mean that everyone else had stopped.
What people want is a quality film. Or since we're talking about Ironheart, a quality TV show. Disney/Marvel has absolutely fumbled with a lot of these stories. Their rock bottom was Secret Invasion. But we're generally trending up.
Agatha was fantastic. Spider-Man was a fresh new approach that really worked. Daredevil was a project they knew they messed up on so they reshot it, it stumbles a little bit but starts and ends strong.
Watching Ironheart, with all the bad press going into it, I've been pleasantly surprised. It's got some issues, but overall it's solid.
I really like the parallel of Riri and The Hood each seeing their best friends. Obviously one is an AI recreation and others can see and the other is some spooky demon shit. (Mephisto?)
Also Ezekiel Stane, son of Obadiah Stane, what an interesting reveal. I had to go back and look it up but the plane crash is what Coulson said he would cook up about his death. Either way a "not becoming my father" storyline doesn't seem like it's going to have space in this show, so curious if it's just there to quickly explain why he has access to Stark-level hardware.
Riri's Unbelievably Productive Day. When The Hood said he needed the suit in 24 hours I thought I had misheard and the next episode would explain or stretch things out, but nope. She woke up, met her AI best friend, met the crew, borrowed a wagon, took a train across town, met and convinced a random dude to give her advanced technology, fixed her suit, pulled off a heist/robbery, went to a party and then had a heart to heart with her mom. That is an emotionally heavy day.
I'm enjoying but it does feel like we're jumping from bullet point to bullet point.
The intro at MIT was great, although it's unclear why she would need money when it's clear MIT has infinite Tony Stark money. Also she must have plenty of money after creating a Vibranium detector for the CIA (aka the plot of Wakanda Forever), but... Fine, she needs money I get that.
The Hood's introduction was fun. The "hood" itself looks a little silly, but it had a scary moment later on so it works out.
The family/friend death drama feels very forced. It's clearly going to be the focus of the series so I'm guessing it will be expanded on and make more sense, but just within this episode it's just like "Remember that thing we didn't tell you about? It's a major part of my character."
Also cool title intro.
Bot ain't been right since Tony died.
(But yeah, that's never happened before and I'm looking into it.)
Weird. It's a 15 second clip, and the second half was definitely on the movie. So either they just cut ~7 seconds or they used a different take that didn't have the first part.
then you lose half the users and perhaps half the communities
As a thought, do you really lose them?
For example the "Television" community previously existed on the lemm.ee instance. The lemm.ee instance is scheduled for shutdown. The "Television" community is now hosted on the piefed.social instance.
It has the same users and has the same topics of discussion. Were the users really lost? Did the community really go away?
Let's pretend Reddit decided it would no longer allow discussion on "Television". What if BlueSky no longer allowed discussion on "Television". You'd have to leave those platforms completely. You really would lose those communities. Those users (at least in part) really would be gone.
Is Lemmy.World a big instance? Sure. Would the users and communities really be lost if it went away? I don't think so.
(Also, it case it wasn't obvious, this is most excellent news! HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE thanks to aeharding!)
That's a fair point. I also have a SteamDeck so indie games I previously bought on the Switch 1, I would now buy on the SteamDeck.
If I only had a Switch or Switch 2, there are advantages to buying handheld versus a PC/Xbox/PlayStation.
With the new Xbox handheld thing that likely further cuts into the handheld market and unique feature of the Switch.
social.vivaldi.net link didn't work for me, but https://www.threads.com/@marvel/post/DLDSloypL6p confirms
I don't think you actually watch it on Threads, you just tweet "OMG Riri blasted that dude IronheartWatchParty" while watching the show with everyone else.
It looks like Threads doesn't actually do "hashtags", but they do tags. If you search Threads you can find things previously tagged with "Daredevil Watch Party".
Also, putting on my Mod hat, we'll have discussion threads set up for each episode.
Are there lots of non Nintendo games exclusive to the original Switch?
Nintendo consoles are for Nintendo games. Non Nintendo games on Nintendo consoles are a nice bonus, but only when looking at the lifetime of the console and not the launch.
A watched the first few and they were ok, but the release schedule was a mess. Initially they were available either right after or a few days after a show or film came out (on streaming). Later on it was weeks or months later.
I'm happy to watch a "making of" right after I've watched the film/series. It's fresh in my mind, I'm in the universe, I know the characters, I'm ready. Weeks later? Not so much.
Fetterman was elected in 2022 for a 6 year term, so the 2028 election.
