  • I really hope they just ignore him. I understand there are significant risks and consequences here but at a certain point doing the right thing has to trump whatever possible negatives would come about from disobeying an unjust law.

Even if you did lose your medical license and paid a hefty fine I feel like you'd ultimately be fine. There's gotta be a doctor out there that would revel in the fact they'd be known as the kickass doctor that disobeyed Ken Paxton. I'm sure you could pivot into something else. Might even be happier and richer making a YouTube channel or TikTok clock or whatever it is the kids are doing these days.

  • Something I sometimes think about is how much of humanity's history is just like, gone. Completely forgotten to time. Great works of art that'll never be seen. Amazing compositions that'll never again be heard. An uncalculable number of lifetimes reduced to nothing more than food for the dirt.

The proposition that we could store vast amounts of our current experience on archival slabs and preserve it all far into our distant future is incredibly exciting to me. It wouldn't only allow us to indefinitely preserve all of these incredible works of art our modern world has enabled. But would also allow us to more effectively learn from our collective societal mistakes. It would hopefully be more difficult to ignore our past foibles when we keep such detailed receipts... Hopefully.

If not at least they'll have SpongeBob in 7023 to distract from the cyber-nazis.

  • I don't really understand the fear mongering going on here. It's not like if we decline past a certain level of marriages that all of a sudden marriages would go extinct. People who want to get married will still get married and people who don't, won't.

But I mean, even if they did, would we really be losing much anyway? Marriage has never quite made sense to me other than for tax purposes (which is a pretty cruddy reason to formalize being with someone forever imo)

It's always seemed super short sighted. People change. And you can't predict how they may change. Your partner that you love now could end up changing into someone you no longer love or worse. Committing to forever is just promising that you'll stay with them even if they make you profoundly unhappy. I've only got this one life to live. I'm not commiting all of it to someone I may not like being around later on.

  • Mostly agree with you here but I do have a minor correction. Cyberpunk was announced in 2013 but it didn't actually start development until sometime in 2016 after cdpr release The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine DLC.

Meaning cyberpunk only took roughly 4-5 years of development time before being released. Though it arguably needed much more time than that.

  • I somehow missed steam deck tools as a thing. Last time I tried figuring things out rewasd is what I kept finding.

Anyway just grabbed steam deck tools last night because of your comment and it's great so far. Currently playing Lies of P and it's perfect. Good looking out, man.

  • Only real way is to install windows. Even then though it's not great. You have to use some third party apps to get windows store to recognize the steam deck controls as a controller. It's a pain in the ass to get working at all and in my experience it's super flakey and prone to crashes. (if you've ever tried to get the steam controller working with game pass games you probably already have a good idea of the problems you might run into).

A slightly more reliable method though is creating a kb+m desktop config for each game you plan on playing through gamepass and manually switching to it before launching your game directly through the windows store. Unfortunately this isn't going to work super great with games that require analog inputs like racing games but it works great for things like fps games or traditional kb+m games.

Steam input is so flexible though that you might be able to figure out a way to get this working right with forza. I'm just not sure how you could. Maybe set throttle in game to some sort of mouse movement and in turn set right trigger to that same mouse movement in your desktop config. That's pure speculation on my part though. I've never personally tried doing that myself. No idea if its actually even possible.

  • I remember hearing that his son would take the reigns after his death and that his son shares the same values as Gabe. So hopefully we're fine for the foreseeable future on that front. Assuming I'm remembering that right at least.

  • Yes. Even if he declassified them first. Because, again, the classification status of the documents does not matter. They are not his property to do with as he pleases even after he declassified them. Once he was no longer president all presidential documents regardless of classification status needed to be relinquished to The National Archives for archival purposes. This was not done.

This all being said I'm merely arguing whether or not he broke the law. Which he very clearly did and should, imo, face consequences for it. If only for how alarming it is that he stole documents pertaining to US nuclear capabilites and military plans. Even if you argue that he CAN declassify them I don't think it should be controversial to say that he absolutely should not have done so.

Now whether or not he'll actually go down for it is a whole other discussion entirely. And I'm not intimately enough aware of the case to predict one outcome or another. But he absolutely should go down for it.
