  • i dont fully agree with the points made, but i do think there are edge cases where rules that apply to cars dont make sense for cyclists, probably the main one that comes to mind is Stop signs and coming to a complete stop. I dont think that is a rule that makes sense for bikes (and can be less safe in some cases) but where rules apply, i dont see why fines should be any different

  • lemmy seems to do a 'better' job (if you can call it that) of providing content similar to what you previously browsed than reddit ever did for me. There is also a LOT of american politics here, so you read one article, you are going to be fed many more.

The only real downside to lemmy is that most of the niche communities arent really active which is a shame, thats up to us to get it moving

  • but are hydrogen cars really a solved thing? theres no infrastructure, like at all, to cater for them. while there is early, but increasing infrastructure for EV's. If the choice was between hydrogen and petrol absolutely, roll that shit out today, like I mentioned im not against hydrogen power, but EV kind of has the momentum and logic behind it. With rooftop solar an EV is a no brainer, especially if you can charge during daytime

  • and you must surely be aware that there are significant challenges in making this a commercially viable consumer technology, right?

im not anti hydrogen at all, its actually one of the main reasons i invested in FMG, but being against electric cars because you think hydrogen is better is frankly weird given that electric cars exist now and are starting to become more affordable for everyday people

  • so that 7 news story on the Adelaide "No" protest pretty much told me all I need to know about the No side.

conspiracy theorists, shouty people, antivax nonsense and racism. what any of that had to do with the referendum who knows

edit: sydney and melbourne too it seems. its almost as if certain types of people swing to the No side

  • “A name registered at birth remains on the NSW Births, Deaths and Marriages Register forever,” the spokesperson said. “Even if the name is formally changed.”

nice way to fuck your kid up for your 5 minutes of journalism fame there.....

  • or even had spent more than 5 seconds reading about life in Australia in the 1940's

We are going through a relatively large period of force upgrades compared to the last few decades though, but to suggest its a war buildup is pure hyperbole

  • edit: dont worry just thinking out loud, my intention wasnt to derail the thread and on thought this thread should be a place for discussing the voice not the riff raff. apologies

  • The changes needed can be achieved without a Constitutional amendment.

and removed next term when the next quasi fascist gets elected.

frankly im a little sick of the 'no' side claiming the Voice will both do nothing, but simultaneously cause some sort of irrepairable divide that will destroy the nation.

And every. single. cooker. is loudly vocally on the No side. Which makes it an easy choice for me
