  • Eh, if my in-laws hadn't bought me a gun safe before my daughter was born, I probably would have given up my guns, because I wouldn't want to spend the money on a safe, but I also wouldn't want unsecured guns in the house... But I'm probably not the typical gun owner so what do I know.

  • Of course those count as shootings, just not mass shootings. There have always been too many shootings to count - especially in the 90s, mainly due to the war on drugs. There has been an uptick in "mass shootings" in recent years, mainly because we didn't differentiate them from "shootings" until relatively recently...

  • Or is the false positive rate too high?

    I'll preface this by saying I have no idea how the system works, but I wouldn't be surprised. I have an old motorcycle that will occasionally get in a mood where it doesn't want to start. If I'm not in a rush, I'll let it sit a few minutes between tries, but if I have somewhere to be, I'll keep fighting with it and keep cranking the starter, which often leads to a massive backfire. I've made neighbors think someone's shooting before.
