  • Because we kicked most of the repressed puritan religious nutjobs out of Europe during the enlightenment.

  • If the ads were targeted to people searching for [brandname] then that would be straight up illegal. Companies would have a slam dunk case in court.

  • You're missing the point. For BK to operate in Russia means dollars flowing into Russia, because BK needs to buy Rubles. Dollars that Russia needs to buy arms on the international market, because nobody is accepting Rubles.

  • In a lot of places, it is. They have laws requiring the ability to unsubscribe using the same method/medium as you subscribe.

  • My cat's legal name is "About a girl". The cattery named her. But we call her Muffin

  • Docker is a way to run containers. Basically lightweight virtual servers. That makes it easy to run multiple servers on one machine. An NVR is a network video recorder. It's like a video security system like they use in stores where all cameras are viewed and recorded in a single place. I assume you know what a doorbell is 😄

  • Start with a Raspberry Pi and just follow the docs: https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/

That's the easy way. I did it the hard way, but that's because I run on on a big dedicated home server together with a dozen other services.

  • You can have a privacy-first smart home. I have. I run Home Assistant in a docker container. No external services/plugins. My smart doorbell streams to my local nvr. If my internet is down, everything keeps working. And it's not even that hard anymore. It's become a lot easier over the last 2-3 years. Still not for non-techie users, but a lot better.

  • And "vader" is father in Dutch 😊

  • Yes, same thing happened with mojoupgrade. It's a questionnaire of sex stuff. You and your partner both fill it in. Then you'd see a list of all the stuff you both wanted to try. If either said "no" on anything, the other would be none the wiser. It was often abused (mostly by women) who would answer "yes" to everything so they could see the answers of their partner and give them grief about their wants.

  • There were no recurring expenses per-install under the old terms. The only expense was your own, per-developer expense. Als long as you had developer seats you could ship infinite units at no cost. Unity has often said that they were never going to change that. But that was just a pinky promise and wasn't actually in their terms.

  • Unity is not a product, it's an ongoing subscription. You can distribute Unity as part of your game as long as you have a subscription. They changed the terms of the subscription for next year. If you don't have a subscription then you cannot redistribute Unity. So your choice is to either accept the new terms, or pull your game from the stores.

  • They showed up years ago. Now they want to get paid.

  • Tanning is very polluting. Even throwing away the hides is better for the environment than tanning them.

  • What's fun about getting ganked by overengineered griefers hunting newbies at the first engineering station that the game points you to? I jumped to solo after that. Fuck that.
