  • All communist countries i know of went into authoritarianism along the way. There's this weird idea that communism can be implemented through creating an authoritarian state that then abolishes itself, turns out the people in power generally don't want to give it up, who would've thought.

Fwiw I disagree with a lot of assumptions in marxism and some of the conclusions and am overall more of a social capitalist but it's pretty true that there hasn't been a truly communist country yet. But I'm fairly sure the same could be said of true pure capitalism anyway.

  • Things have definitions. A scotsman is a scottish person, which is why no true scotsman is about claiming someone isn't scottish for their behavior instead of simply their nationality (ignore further issues of self identity etc here).

Communism similarly has a definition and just because you claim to be one doesn't mean you are one. Just like a country isn't a democracy just because it calls itself democratic.

  • Yes, I've never really seen the paradox as a paradox for that reason. The question, rather, should be what precisely we require from the social contract. The old question of "where is the line at which point my freedom impacts your freedom". But no matter where that line is, it means that if someone spews hate, you're allowed to respond in kind

(Morally, that is. If it's covered by law then legally it should be handled through the justice system and responding in kind would fall under vigilante justice)

  • Also, online logins should lock you out temporarily after a few failed attempts anyway, making brute force a complete non issue.

Also also, if you're going to try to brute force someones pw, you would just look up the requirements beforehand anyway.

  • I'm from the country that spawned nazis lol, pretty sure if you're going that route you're the unqualified one for not being german.

Violence works great for keeping people out of political discourse (part of how the nsdap rose to power), it doesn't work to have them consider changing their minds.

  • Oh, it's the trans version of being gay is a choice i guess...

Would explain a lot, because to most transppl the thought of someone wanting to be what they were assigned at birth makes no sense whatsoever. But regardless it's not hard to accept that others might feel like you do but in reverse. Shows one hell of a lack of empathy to then conclude that must mean anyone claiming they do want to must have ulterior motives.

Maybe that at least means there's hope for her to realize what kind of bs she's spouting, but she's probably a lost cause.

  • Can definitely agree they need to be context based, dunno how the situation there is in the US precisely.

I can also say from experience though that no speed limit doesn't mean there aren't tons of overtakes, and speed changes when overtaking isn't possible. Not everyone is comfortable with the same speed. If you have a 6 lane highway without speed limit here, you have trucks going 80 km/h on the rightmost lane, some cars following them at the same speed and other cars going around 100 that often use the rightmost lane too and then overtake every truck. Then cars going around 120 in the middle lane except some go 130 and others 110 so lots of overtakes happen. Then you have the leftmost lane where everything from 140-220 tends to be (def skews to the lower end though) and you can guess the result.

  • The reason traffic moves at above the speed limit is that people see the speed limit and go slightly above it because it feels fine.

Speed limits are absolutely necessary in residential areas, and still a good thing on highways. High speeds are insanely fuel inefficient and they do also endanger people more.

My country has been debating putting a speed limit on highways that previously didn't have one so I've heard quite a lot about this topic.

    1. Spewing their hate on the street is different from just being a nazi
    2. yes obviously it'll stop them from doing that but it won't stop them from harboring their ideology. A large reason ppl end up in extremist circles is feeling like they don't fit into society, what's gonna happen when you continue isolating them?

You're also making an awful lot of assumptions about me, given that i went to demos against a far right party here before lmao

Btw, how the fuck would i know if ppl got violent against hateful shitheads in some other country and especially what the shitheads' reaction was (even if it's fairly obvious)

  • And my point is that allowing calls for violence potentially compromises safety of any marginalized group as it removea hurdles when the wrong people get into power, and punching nazis is just going to radicalize them more anyway, so that's also not gonna help.

    But, yknow, imagine thinking.

  • U got the white part correct, congrats.

And no, I just have principles. And well, the intelligence to realize that it's not the greatest wau forward. Would still press a magic button that instantly kills all nazis, but that doesn't exist.

  • Calling for violence against anyone should be illegal imo. But yes that includes things like telling people to punch nazis.

Otherwise if they actually do convince people you're a groomer they'll think it's ok to punch you too. "Group x is an exception" or "subject matter y isn't protected" is the problem, not disallowing certain rhethorics.

  • Both glass and plastic bottles frequently get reused here in germany. Can't say I've ever heard of someone having an unclean on. I don't know where you heard that from but it's clearly outdated or flat out bullshit.

  • I didn't use mine in class because it wasn't allowed and teachers would take it away if I did. Is that not a thing anymore? Or maybe just a german thing in the first place.

That being said, don't need a smartphone to play games in class. I was a god at snake on my graphing calculator...

  • There's a difference between "it wouldn't be so bad if they die" and "i hope they died in the worst way possible". I think the former about quite a few people, but while there's some fucked up part of me that delights in assholes getting what they deserve, I'm still not gonna celebrate someone going through torture.

Tbh I just don't think the people upvoting this meme are likely the same people, i constantly see comments on here dehumanizing people for having backwards-ass views on things, which would be perfectly in line with saying the genocide is okay because many of the people affected hold similar views.

It's obviously not, not just because that's bound to not apply to everyone, but also because people can change and are a product of their environment.

  • Gearbox is also the developer of the borderlands games. Doesn't seem impossible they'll just let the studio do its thing, and inany case they're far from unrelated to game dev.

Though I'd also be concerned any time something I like is bought by another company.

  • To my knowledge AC in places north of italy is basically nonexistent in private homes. Mediterranean countries do often have it though. Poland certainly doesn't commonly.

Fridges don't even remotely compare to AC in power consumption, and inside temperature doesn't differ as much as outside temperature in summer vs. winter because in winter the inside gets heated, and in summer insulation still keeps it below outside temps usually.
