  • They handed over 200 documents plus financial records.

Without knowing what was specifically submitted, the quantity doesn't say much.

I could provide hundreds of pages of spam emails, automated messages from my bank and every online store I've bought stuff from, and still leave out any communication which was specifically requested by the court.

    Example:

You use Firefox, you occasionally use IE to download MS updates and when you accidentally click on a link generated by windows.

You use Firefox to Google "how to commit murder" and "how to remove blood from fabric" and then are accused of committing a murder around that same time.

You get a subpoena for your electronic communications and searches.

You only submit your IE searches (and delete your Firefox History).

You are in contempt. The prosecutor would have the expert note that you use the computer for X hours a day (as per the logs that build up as you are online), yet IE shows minimal usage.

Your Firefox shows no history, however there is a bookmark in your browser from after the time you received the subpoena. Therefore, you cleared your browser history after you were subpoenaed.

You have Firefox installed (which you would have to go out of your way to do), but submitted no Firefox logs or empty logs.

These logs also show logged activity from Firefox during the period of missing browser history.

  • im gettin booked for deleting my emails cus my inbox fills with spam.

You would only be in trouble if your emails were first subpoenaed, and before complying, you continued deleting your email.

Document disposal due to established practices and which fall within regulatory requirements are not at issue.

You won't get in trouble for deleting your emails when your inbox fills up if you haven't been served with a subpoena.

IANAL but I like to read up on legal stuff.

  • It's not a loan

    It pretty much is

    https://www.sevenslegal.com/criminal-attorney/bail-bail-bonds-work/418/

    HOW BAIL BONDS WORK

Bail bonds are similar to personal loans. After putting down a small percentage for the total amount, a bail bondsman or agent, gives you the rest of the money needed for your bail. Like a loan officer, this bail bondsman or agent is similar to the lender of a personal loan.

As an example, if your bail is $15,000, you or a family member would be required to make a deposit of $2,000. The bail bondsman or agent would then give you the $15,000 bail needed for you to “post bail.” Most bail bond companies also will require you to provide them with some type of collateral in order to get the remaining money needed for your bail bond. Collateral is usually a deed to your house, item of jewelry, or car. This collateral is used in order to secure the bail bonds’ loan in case you don’t show up at your appointed court date, in which case you would not get your money back. After your trial is over, and you receive your money back from the court, the money is returned to bail bond company you received your bail from.

Due to the fact that this is a financial risk the bail bondsman and bail bond company take because of this loan, they will often take additional precautions to make sure you attend all of your court dates. The bail bondsman wants to make sure his or her company receives back all the bail money it loaned you. As a result of these precautions, bail bond companies will frequently do the following:

Prefer a relative or friend put up the necessary collateral for your bond. This is because you will then be less likely to miss a court date since your relative’s or friend’s house or property is on the line in for your bail bond. Call you before each court date in order to remind your about your upcoming trial. Require you to make periodic check-ins at their bail bond office to make sure you haven’t left town. Like most defendants, you will probably agree that these precautions are a small prices to pay in order to be able to stay out of jail while waiting for a trial date or during your trial.

  • Can confirm, was shopping for ceiling fans and finding the cfm per power on different power levels was a pain in the arse.

Should be part of Energy Star like other appliances.

As it was I had to search for DC and/or ECM motor fans and go from there.

On October 30, 1924, Midgley participated in a press conference to demonstrate the apparent safety of TEL, in which he poured TEL over his hands, placed a bottle of the chemical under his nose, and inhaled its vapor for 60 seconds, declaring that he could do this every day without succumbing to any problems.[7][13] However, the State of New Jersey ordered the Bayway plant to be closed a few days later, and Jersey Standard was forbidden to manufacture TEL again without state permission. Production was restarted in 1926 after intervention by the federal government. High-octane fuel, enabled by lead, was important to the military. Midgley later took a leave of absence from work after being diagnosed with lead poisoning.[14]

Not saying the Fukushima discharge is not safe (the radiation level is very low and the dilution factor of 500 swimming pools worth vs the whole ocean is huge), just that some folks will risk self-injury for profits.

  • There's a question on the SF-86

    https://news.clearancejobs.com/2020/01/12/extremist-groups-and-your-clearance/

The vetting can be done as was done with the National Guard deployed to DC:

    https://www.rand.org/blog/2021/02/what-the-capitol-siege-means-for-the-future-of-security.html

Even National Guard members deployed to serve as an extra layer of security at the inauguration were vetted by the FBI to ensure no infiltration by potential insider threats; 12 National Guard members were removed due to security concerns. One Army reservist with a current security clearance and access to a naval munitions depot in New Jersey was also arrested in connection with the assault on the Capitol.

  • press Shift + f10 and then type "OOBE\BYPASSNRO" easy and simple, takes only a few seconds

Not picking on you, that is actually really good advice and a neat shortcut I'll be trying myself. I just think it's funny all the reddit threads regarding Linux usage, someone will pop in with a simple commands to get whatever the user wants done quickly (Ex: Open the Console and type "sudo apt update" then "sudo apt upgrade" and you'll be good!) and they get shit on with comments like "OMG! You have to Open a terminal to do anything! This is why Windowz rules and Linux is for fanboy dorks!!"

    Btw, I dual boot.

  • Speaking of the Judge that signed the warrant:

    https://www.npr.org/2023/08/17/1194392001/judge-who-signed-kansas-newspaper-search-warrant-had-2-dui-arrests-reports-say

In another development, news emerged that Magistrate Judge Laura Viar, who signed the search warrant allowing police to seize the equipment, was arrested at least twice for driving under the influence. Those 2012 arrests came months apart in two counties — and it's not clear how much information was shared between officials at the time, The Wichita Eagle reports.

    ...

In the first arrest, Viar "was charged and entered a diversion agreement — which was extended six months because she refused to get an alcohol and drug evaluation and stopped communicating with her lawyer,"

She was arrested again months later, this time in her home county.

"Officials say she was driving Morris County Magistrate Judge Thomas Ball's vehicle, when she ran off the road and hit a shed near the Council Grove football field," TV station WIBW reported in 2012, adding that at the time, the prosecutor was on the Morris County Anti-Drug Task Force.

"She was charged with DUI, reckless driving and refusal to take a preliminary breathalyzer," the Emporia Gazette reported at the time.

Despite those issues, Viar was reelected as county prosecutor several times. In late 2022, she was chosen to fill a slot as a magistrate judge in the 8th Judicial District after the sitting judge retired.

  • To add to that, back in the day you had to find out what engine a particular game used as there were huge compatibility issues with certain engines and others ran a fair amount slower via Wine. Some engines, however, ran incredibly well under Wine.

That said, there were some cool things you could do in Wine like define a pseudo monitor to run your game on. Example, back in 2010 (before widescreen monitors were more common) I had a triple head setup on Linux. I could specify in Wine an arbitrary monitor size (like say 2560x1024) and run games "full-screen" centered on my setup while having other windows open on the edges of my real desktop.

Even games that officially didn't support multiple monitors and on Windows (would force themselves to one screen and black out the other ones) ran well via Wine with this setup.

It was a bit involved to get working the first time though!

Played through the HL2 games, Supreme Commander, Rift: Planes of Telara, and even Wow that way (though WoW had other issues with non 4:3 displays).

  • Before Proton there were many projects that were helping run windows games and apps on Linux. Many of these were massive undertakings:

Wine (translate windows API calls to Linux API calls)

Wine tricks (automates the installation of many Window app dependencies)

Crossover and their work on wine & wine bottles (a mini windows drive environment for each program)

Loki's early work on SDL to simplify sound and input for Linux and other *nix targets.

Mono (open source implementation of . Net a library used by a fair amount of windows apps (also includes Moonlight - the open source implementation of MS Silver light)

DXVK a impressive and efficient Direct X 10 & 11 to Vulcan translation layer (later incorporated D9VK - Direct X 9 to Vulcan) which also helps older games run better in Windows in addition to adding compatibility for Linux

And many other pieces I'm forgetting now, make up Proton. Valve did an awesome thing in packaging all the community developed components, put some of those devs on their payroll, and even paid Crossover to work on the project that ultimately became Proton.

Now with Proton, what would require lots of individual steps and separate downloads (setup a separate wine environment for each application, add dependencies, install DXVK, install needed open source frameworks, add any registry tweaks needed, etc) is now mafically automatically handled behind the scenes in one step by one tool by just installing a Windows game on Linux via Steam (though Proton can work without Steam as well).

Since all the work is open sourced, the community is able to have their own version of Proton with newer fixes and components that Valve could not distribute themselves due to licensing: Glorious Eggroll.

There were many attempts in the past to make an all-in-one tool to handle setting up wine and other compatibility tools (Lutris, Transgaming, PlayOnLinux, etc). So Valve wasn't necessarily the first, they just offered a well put together, funded, and easy to use implementation.
