If election theater motivates this policy and makes this happen then I’m all for it. I wonder what our criminal AG in Texas thinks about all this, considering he’s trying to do the opposite in cities with lax marijuana enforcement.
I’m surprised if anyone can successfully moderate a large lemmy community at all, considering there are no tools in place to provide notifications for reports - through email or other means.
I actually have a toll free number. I was going to potentially use just for a goofy project, however once robodialers find out you have a working number you might get a flood of spam calls. This sucks because you(as the toll free owner) are billed for any minutes for calls that connect to you.
Someone would have to foot those bills and that’s really how you’d only get a 1-800 number “for free”.
Does someone feel like giving me an ELI5 why Bitcoin mining eats up so much electricity these days? Is it just because the problems the machines need to solve have gotten more complex? Do other cryptos tax the resources as bad? Is there a viable crypto that would be considered “green” at this point?

Are there any app notifications or email options to let yo know about reports? I modestly mod a couple subs and I have never found a way to reliably get report notifications unless I log in through a browser based front end.
Good read. It does make you contemplate if this truly is just all political grandstanding. Sticky and complicated situation but this hard stance by Abbott seems dumb af.
