  • That and if you remember he's been on calls with Putin for the last few weeks. Putin hired North Koreans to help invade Ukraine. NK and Russia were worried South Korea might assist in defending Ukraine. So naturally. Trump has to start scrutinizing Korea more

  • I'm waiting for people to connect the dots around my town. People's rights begin with legislation and end with judicial decision. Being that the bill of rights is being overridden by the executive branch right now, judges have said so and the executive branch is saying they don't care, it is fairly obvious the bill of rights no longer matters. So pick any amendment you like from the bill or rights, free speech, free press... Right the bear arms. Yup, gone. The conservatives nullified the right to bear arms and is cheering for it. By the time they think they should speak out about it, well they'll maybe realize they already cheered for the loss of their freedom of speech. Oops

  • It was all covered in my Florida education. For the most part it is just a very small amount of information that people tend to forget it. It also isn't all taught in one class. (T4 slips are called W2 forms in the U.S. for those questioning). The investing thing is a broad generalization though. I assume because it may get considered an overlap of teaching kids to gamble. Everyone was required to take either micro or macro economics in high school though for us, both of which touched on stock market invement mostly just tied to the idea of a 401k (retirement accounts).

Nutritional labels were covered in science classes multiple times, but we're touched on in middle school science, and we were all required to take a home ec class for half a year in 7th grade which taught about it as well. Again in physics and chemistry classes.

W2s were covered in our mandatory typing class as a form of data entry, because most people only take the data from boxes off the W2 and enter them into a tax program. Then the tax brackets were taught to us in middle and highschool.

A lot of it to me is that we don't pay attention in school and forget a lot over time. Nutritional and Tax bracket questions were on both the ACT and SAT. Which are national tests required to get into colleges.

  • Yeah, 21 because the hair, energy, lack of heartburn, ability to eat/drink anything all the time. I could run 10 miles averaging 6 min miles. Now my ankles and knees feel like I ran 10 miles daily for years on cement. (35)

  • This post was made on that instance. Federation is why you see it and can comment on it. You have access to see all of their posts and comments and can interact unless your instance .world in this case gets defederated from their instance. You do not need any new logins to participate with their instance. It will show up in your feed on w.e app you prefer to use. (Same goes for lemm.ee)

Defederation is essentially a block made of an entire instance. Sometimes it is done to prevent future issues, and sometimes it is done because idiological differences. An example of the first is threads being built into the fedeverse. It has so many users that it would effectively nudge out all smaller instances and eventually start putting ads back in and w.e they want to make money and do whatever they choose to manipulate the users. So many instances have pre-set their instances to not allow federation with threads when it eventually connects. The second example was ideology, which the user mentioned .hexbear. They are a group of people who are often misrepresented but have no problems with commenting death to America over and over again. Some of them are trolls, some are not, but in the end many instances defederated from them because they didn't want to deal with all the issues and people bitching all the time. World is the largest instance by a good amount last I checked. (Probably to large ratio wise). You shouldn't have issues there. When someone posts a comment on dbzero, it'll show in your stuff.

Some other things instances vary on is, upvotes, downvotes, no votes, and perpetual scrolling. (Though many apps have that choice as well). Some people worry about mental impacts of perpetual scrolling so they limit it. Some instances don't show the votes, and some only show the upvotes as they believe it helps promote discussion as opposed to just downvoting something you don't like and moving on. This also makes situations where someone may not realize 184 people downvotes and 1 person upvoted and since they are new to a topic, may not be able to tell it may not be based on truth or agree with public opinion or what not.

The one thing people SHOULD realize. No matter what your instance shows you, upvotes, downvotes and by who ARE recorded and sent by Lemmy through federation as part of how it works. So when you upvotes a comment, there are people out there that know YOUR user name in specific upvotes that comment. They can see a list of every vote. This also goes for downvotes. Most every instance has turned this view off for users so people don't get upset at someone and follows them around nagging them and what not. That said. The data still exists and is transferred through federation otherwise it cannot keep track of up/down votes, because otherwise it would just go up or down every time you hit the button it has to say "Freddy.world" has already voted.

So now if you don't understand how scary that is yet. Just note that bad actors can spin up an instance, federate and know the username who up/downvoted say a post about Trump being a dictator. If you are not using a VPN at all times, your IP address is going to get caught up being tied to your account. So they have that account connected to your phone (and government will know the home address)

Have fun out there, but it's always nice to understand how things work. (Upvoted a nude, I'm sure someone can create a database and log all of it fairly easily.).

  • I installed a Linux server on an old laptop, then installed Jellyfin. It's like a Walmart special from 8 years ago, so no graphics card outside of the integrated graphics. Doesn't matter. I disabled sleep, and power saving settings on the Wi-Fi. I had a USB external 1tb drive hooked to it. The laptop doesn't even have support for a 5ghz wifi connection. No issues at all. I can run 2 movies at 1080p in different rooms off the external USB drive without issue. Just go for it. I installed RustDesk on it so wherever I am I can remote to it, turn on the VPN and kick off a torrent for whatever movie someone mentioned while at work or what not. Then when I get home it's there.

  • A good example is the post on here about tax brackets. Far more Republicans didn't know how tax brackets worked than Democrats. But every mainstream language model would have gotten the answer right.

  • So if you mail money to someone for buying a product that the majority of people in a Republic believes should be legal it is called purchasing, not trafficking. You can call many things a criminal syndicate. For example the current government deporting people when the judge ruled they should not be deported. That's a criminal syndicate.

  • She wasn't illegal until her lawyer told her to take a plea deal that wouldn't effect her legal status in the U.S. Then it did change her status. Serving 2 years for smoking pot and then being abducted and throw out of the country is ridiculous. She hurt no one, paid taxes and didn't do anything wrong in the majority of the U.S.'s opinion. If it were actually a functional Republic, she would have broken no laws in the first place.

  • How are red flag laws geared towards conservatives? Are they more likely to have someone report them as suicidal?

Also how would removing a gun from a suicidal person be comparable to taking a person against their will and more than likely getting them fired from work and thrown in poverty?

  • It is distraction. Russia doesn't gain anything from getting Moscow burned to the ground. The number of U.S. citizens that want to shoot Canadian citizens is low. And the only way that 31 countries (NATO) don't attack the U.S. in defense of Canada is if they think Russia is a big enough threat to keep them from coming. Ukraine has proved Russia is not. Russia would lose all the ground gained in Ukraine soon as Poland and Germany started air raids on Russia. Poland would have no issue burning Moscow to the ground without ever setting boots in Russia. There is no benefits to any of it. The only benefit is to Trump where he would be able to seize war time powers. In the mean time more than half of America would be livid with the U.S. government getting us sucked into WW3 and be trying to not only oust the current government but actively sabotaging factories making drones or any wartime gear. 2/3s of this country would likely WANT us to lose the war so we could fix our government and get back to relative peace. Shit, NYC itself would likely blow up the Statue of Liberty.

Nothing good would come from WW3, and that's what it would bring.

  • Normally the judge can deputize state officials to perform the arrest, but I think the attorney general can come up with a way to stop them, which she is definitely compromised. The only way to detain the people performing the orders would be for the states to make the arrests.
