  • "x-tard" will never be and has never been funny. Disappointed that the mods would take down calling that out. Hexbear has been making some pretty good arguments about the overwhelming white middle class-ness of the instance. The fact that the only Vaush community I've seen is on Blahaj is a great example of it. Even Reddit libertarians aren't cool with using "tard" though. This is literally worse than Reddit libertarian moderation, and that's pathetic coming from a space that's supposed to be inclusive.

  • I'm not saying I hate hexbear or anything adjacent. I was a member of Chapo before it left Reddit and just didn't make the jump. The John Brown thing was topic of the week when it was taken down, but what I remember the most from Chapo was the poop ball pig spam. Hilarious? Yes. Annoying? Also yes.

  • Marginalized people in general have to put far more effort into identity than non-marginalied people. Black people often have to speak differently to white people, autistic people mask, women often have to wear a full face of makeup. Yes, all people put an insane amount of effort into gender, but the power imbalance in society makes it far lighter on some people.

  • Yeah, I don't think this meme gets it all the way, but I still think it's funny. Pretty much anybody in a marginalized group forced around non-marginalied people, the marginalized people have to perform. Like women being forced to wear makeup for men, or black people being forced to code switch when talking to white people.

Cis people do go to extreme lengths to perform gender, but it simply isn't as important for cis straight white men. Elon Musk got more hair because it made him feel better, not because he needed to not be bald if he was ever going to be considered a man. Elon doesn't have to code change or anything of the sort, he doesn't have to adjust to anybody. If Elon Musk was a black guy or a woman, he'd be far more hated because it's not okay for anybody except cis white men to act like that for some reason. Elon is an extreme example, but I'm sure we all know some C grade white guys that love to act like that. Where if they weren't white guys, nothing in their life would work because of how little effort they actually put in.

I think this meme is just trying to highlight that marginalized people have to put far more effort into their identity than non-marginalied people. Whenever I'm talking to other trans people, I am the kid putting cookies in the oven because I really don't try too hard and I just do what comes natural. But the second I'm going to be around cis people, I am a French chef tweezing off every individual hair from my face so nobody notices, essentially trying to create the perfect plate to distract from my AGAB.

  • I understand, your comparison was fine. The person responding to you makes it sound like PT is ripping off Contrapoints though. Comparing their ideas, their production value and choices is fine, they do exist in a similar space, but there's nothing wrong with PT existing in a similar space. Straight white men are allowed to coexist with identical videos on YouTube. But someone in a marginalized group? Their channels are constantly pitted against each other.

Vaush/Xanderhal, Asmongold/Penguinz0 are all allowed to be successful even though they pretty much make the same videos and stream clips on the same topics. But for some reason creators from marginalized groups can't have similar tastes and ideas.

  • This is just pitting trans people against each other for no reason. PT were less theatrical before they came out, but acting like a theater kid in your video editing choices isn't exclusive to any one YouTuber.

  • You know what's even more praxis tho? Just continuing to use Lemmy without relating it to Reddit. Lemmy and Kbin should exist as their own things, not just "those Reddit alternatives". This site's identity shouldn't be tied to another site.

  • Yeah, Fiats are always in a weird spot, I don't really understand what their market is but it's cool. But I will never disrespect a cheap fully electric vehicle made for daily commuting. Pricewise, it would be really great in American towns and cities. I drive a Prius and gas is starting to get expensive even for me, and biking is not a viable option for where I live.
