  • I've seen at least 1 website that actually had critical components like parts of the navigation classed as ads, so they had to almost force you to disable it to just use their site.

    Imo, if you design your website in such a way where critical basic functionality is classed as ads, then you've built your website wrong. Basic functionality should not be capable of being classed as an ad.

  • Enshittification is more than just scummy vendor lock-in tactics. There are multiple things that count towards enshittification. Using "bot detection" as an excuse to block users with ad blockers and privacy tools is just as scummy

  • Here in the UK, you can make silent phone calls to 999, but you still need to respond to the operator in dome way. If you can't speak to the operator, they'll ask you to cough or to press certain keys so they can verify that it's a real call. Just dialling 999 without interacting with the operator won't guarantee a police response.
