  • Yo if you want to support the GOP and the MAGA movement that is your right. Just saying I'd per prefer to have a Dem in office vs cutting my nose off to spite my face.

As long as you realize you're actively helping MAGA then by all means you do you.

  • I mean it's probably both but I would bet my life that Trump is actually a Russian agent. You don't grab a whole pile of classified documents and bring them to your home in a location secured worse than the door to a bedroom and not proceed to give those away.

Now, direct involvement and level of control - idk but he must be "on their payroll" so to speak.

Who knows they're a whole den of corruption, I wouldn't be surprised to learn some of Trump's staff are selling state secrets.

  • Hello foreign intelligence agencies, would you like an easy way to intercept and read classified communications? Maybe just buy it off Mossad? JFC what is this clown show. Why are our intelligence officials even using off the shelf, or even modified, software solutions for communications? Shouldn't we have some secure messaging app and protocols developed here?

Am I missing something here or is it really this dumb?

  • You can draw a line from the Tories and Whigs at the USA's founding to the modern day Republican and Democrat parties.

They didn't just spring from the ether, they were birthed from internal party politics. Why do you think the most progressive people we have in our Congress are Democrats or, in cases like the incredibly rare independent like Bernie, are working with the Dems?

It's not a fluke. Being surprised that sitting on your hands and pouting that the party won't pay attention to a person who won't do anything to help them win is crazy.

What's your pitch? "hey as someone who will do literally nothing to improve your odds of being elected you should pay attention to me!". No, it doesn't work like that.

  • As a progressive / person with leftist ideology it fuckin kills me to see people, who might be Russian bots or propaganda Bros in all honesty or victims of them, keep saying to just do nothing and it'll get better by magic.

Like it or not the Democrats are the only alternative to Republicans with how our system is set up. Enough people vote straight R or D every election with little to no knowledge over "that's my team" that it is pointless to try to vote 3rd party just because of our electoral system's flaws.

Either those peeps are arguing in bad faith, are ignorant to the reality of the situation or (unsurprisingly at this point) trolls or victims of GOP/nation state propaganda convincing them to throw their vote away.

  • Idk if 10% of the town patronizes it regularly and there's no other shops around that's like 250 customers coming in year round, let's say each spends an average of 150 in a year that's what .... 37 grand? Plus whatever online retail they can do.

If it's just like one dude that runs it and works there and pays themselves I could see it being viable.

Edit: probably would be a good way to launder some drug money though and I've found a lot of weed smokers in the mix of my nerd shops I frequent.

  • I always wonder if people complained about stores when we started to get the merchandise out of the warehouse ourselves.

Something like, "why isn't there a clerk getting the groceries on my list for me, I don't work here, I shouldn't have to go into the back and get my own shit."

I prefer bagging my own shit anyways when I go shopping. I don't break shit and at least in my area it looks like they disabled the weight shit or set the tolerances higher so I'm not constantly told to bag something I already did or getting told I bagged something without scanning .

    Now it's pretty good actually.

  • I did say fuck Nestle, didn't I? I'm not really trying to advocate for them just from reading that excerpt I would be interested to know how much the company and its reps really knew about the drinking water situation.

Like, I'm very certain they didn't do anything to help or to combat the problem, just curious if it was something they knew about and how it was handled. I can say for sure they're evil and should have helped. It's just I am thinking about who knew what and how much.

I guess it's more of a thought and less of a defending them because I am not a big nestle fan. Although I do love their chocolate milk mix, reminds me of my childhood so I occasionally buy it because I'm a bad guy.

  • To play (actual) devil's advocate ... Is it Nestle's fault the drinking water was unclean that was mixed with the formula?

That's where I would say the whole, who's responsible part of the equation gets fucky. To be clear, nestle should have done more to combat this and not have pushed formula feeding where they knew the water could be bad.

I'm not a fan of them by any means and would definitely need to read more and definitely know they're evil (fuck I mean I'm pretty sure every large enough corp is evil, hell most of the small ones too) but it still gives me pause when it's presented.

Just so I'm unequivocal here - nestle is bad and fuck them.

  • No, Trump imposed additional tariffs without reason on China. The only reason China raised tariffs, and by the way they literally stopped raising them because it's pointless since they're already so high, is because Trump started imposing them when he took office.

There already were trade agreements and tariffs in place negotiated with both countries input. These new tariffs were just slapped on by the Trump admin not as a reaction to anything but as a unilateral imposition.

You could also say they're unilateral because they're only aimed at China and no other states if you want to look at it that way too.

  • This is like the difference between normal and right. Like I know a ton of people normally search for answers by putting full questions in. With the advent of LLMs and AI being thrown into everything asking full questions starts to make more sense.

For actual good results using a search engine, for sure what you said is better.

  • Yeah, it's called employee rights and strong laws. Those exist overseas, most European countries are good examples. The USA is ass backwards when it comes to our employee protections.

As an example, in many countries they need to give a reason for terminating your employment - pay out x amount of time depending on the reasons given and since your healthcare is NOT tied to employment you don't need to worry about that going away. That's not even discussing their paid vacation time or other legal protections.

Basically, you can't just fire people for some janky made up reason. As you can imagine this also leads to better hiring practices because the companies can't just cut a person out of nowhere so they need to make sure they're hiring good folks from the get go. Plus it means more job security and that the companies do a better job forecasting labor demand since they can't just hire a bunch and fire whatever percentage as a rule of thumb.

Anyways, I don't know if we would ever have a chance as Americans, but I can tell you what you're asking literally already exists.

  • It's not but party unity is also important and we won't find perfection. Working within the confines of our real world is important but I agree that we need better representatives. Booker is just what our system gave us and he's a lot better than many alternatives and worse than others.

Mostly I think having a unified message and party is important but hard when you're dealing with people who actually care.
