  • Pretty much everyone is seeing it just by looking at their instance's homepage, they're not browsing on sh.itjust.works's page. If you post on your instance's main page, then EVERYONE on EVERY instance will see it on THEIR instance's homepage too. That's how federation works.

  • That's my point exactly. Their title asks "Does anyone know why we’re defederated from beehaw?" but the majority of people reading this post will be on instances that AREN'T defederated with beehaw. The post needs to say "Does anyone know why sh.itjust.works is defederated from beehaw?"

  • You can't say "we" on a fediverse system, because the post is gonna be seen by everyone everywhere. I'm not on sh.itjust.works, I'm viewing your post on kbin, and it's also gonna be seen on all the other lemmy servers that are federated with yours.

  • Recent Apple is the whole problem! Jobs era apple was amazing, but Cook era Apple is just a style brand with mediocre products. I used to love everything apple made, but for a long time now I've disliked almost everything they've done.

  • This is the correct answer. It's a complete lack of experiencing anything. Not black, not darkness, but simply nothing. Before the general anesthesia you'll feel high, and when you're coming out of the general anesthesia you'll be groggier than you've ever been in your life, but the time during general anesthesia simply won't exist for you.

  • Absolutely correct. There is no inherent meaning to life. You get to decide what the meaning of your life is. For me, this is the purpose of my life:

    • Be happy, and make other people happy too.

This is the objective. Then I try to figure out what steps will best accomplish that goal. Sometimes choosing to do something unpleasant now will lead to overall more happiness in your life, like going to the dentist so you don't lose a tooth. But don't just do a constant stream of unpleasant things just because society or family pressure you to do them. Do what you want to do with your own life.

  • We haven't even gotten people to Mars and it would "only" be a couple of year trip with current technology. I can't imagine society making a generational trip happen any time soon. Sorry for being a Debbie downer.
