  • Here (central EU) I see a lot of sysadmin job offers. They tend to be less well paid than developers, so unless you can become some senior "expert", expect a pay cut. But people will always need someone to fix "the computer".

  • I feel like this is a self perpetuating problem: Cops experience bad shit, become cynic and corrupt, which leads to a general attitude that increases bad shit. Repeat a few rounds, and you end up with cops viewing citizens (especially of stereotypical minority groups) as enemies.

  • More the illusion of being dependable. The deal, at least as I can imagine it, was like this: you buy our stuff, and if shit happens, we come and save the day. Now, with the unpredictability of certain people, this whole deal seems to be up in the air.

  • Depends? Shady part of the city, late night, slightly drunk and alone? Absolutely. Going for lunch in a nic small town? Absolutely not. The street sign I run into would probably tell me it's sorry.

So, yeah, depends on the situation. I've had most negative interactions either in crowds or at places like train stations, so that is where I am most paranoid

  • Why do you have issues with liquids? Because of the chance of leaks?

Personally, I think 1l or so of oil is pretty handy, and coolant can be topped up with water in an emergency (do ensure the correct amount of actual "coolant" is in there, in a non-emergency, because corrosion is not fun. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think brake fluid is worth it, if there is a situation where I find myself without brake fluid, I probably can't do anything with small tools.

IMHO it is worth the risk. If I lived away from gas stations, I would probably also have a fuel can.

  • Fair point.

Maybe I feel like this because I've been in the same situation before, where it felt like I had exhausted all social options in my comfort zone. Asking random strangers is nice sometimes, because it gives you perspective and feedback from people who are out of your own bubble. Or, at least, a way to vent your frustration without risking to alienate your friends.

  • Unfortunate :(

Although, this still reads like "standard" stuff like using google analytics or a Facebook plugin. To me, this does not seem to be any worse than most mainstream sites.

Of course, modern internet sucks balls, don't get me wrong.

  • +1 for hiking groups/clubs. It usually consists of lonely people who spend too much time inside, I made some friends that way.

Obviously, don't suggest a hike to the deep forest with convenient lack of phone service and witnesses as a first date :)

  • Mimicry not, but a lot of "cute" behaviour is absolutely learned. If our dog wants something, she pokes you with her paw while making a cute face. Must have learned that from her previous owners. Our previous dog (who we had for much longer) never did that. That shit is 100% conscious effort, as in she observed humans tapping each other on the shoulder and figuring out that it works for her as well.

  • Actual focus, where I am 100% on the problem with all my remaining grey matter? 3-4h. That doesn't mean I am doing nothing the other time - I'm talking to people, thinking about stuff, setting stuff up and so on. But if I do more than 3, 4 h, quality suffers, I suffer, and my sleep schedule suffers.

  • Really? It looks quite alive to me, I would assume that pose and expression take some muscle tension to hold. But tbh, if there were wolves that big around me, I would carry a gun as well. You know, just in case, I'd rather look stupid than become the statistic anomaly.

  • Signal integrity will probably be fine, you can always go with optical signalling for the long routes. What would be more of an issue is absurd complexity, latency from one end to the other, that kind of stuff. At some point, just breaking it down into a lot of semi-autonomous nodes in a cluster makes more sense. We kind of already started this with multi-core CPUs (and GPUs are essentially a lot of pretty dumb cores). The currently biggest CPUs all have a lot of cores, for a reason.
