  • Ey! Reminds me of my middle-school years! I still can't belive I made an entire game without a single class... Just storing info in arrays and writing in comments what location represents what data. But I was a literal child, too young to read guides or sit through "long" tutorials.

I don't want to sound too mean, but whenever I see anything similar at work, I wish that person get a job they're actually good at. It's fine and all that the company started hiring actual programmers to fix things, but the fact that the old crew still fucks shit up with senior privileges is a major grievance.

  • Jesus, reminds me of a similar story. My gf once lost a job to someone who literally just pasted code into LLMs, also delivering quickly, even tho it was hot garbage. Anyhow, she spent a lot of her time fixing his shit and so her output went down. I hope that company burns to the ground with completely un manageable software.

  • Curious, wouldn't expect that from the US. Something to actually make life for people easier.

Tho idk, wouldn't really call that "free transportation". Like I guess technically it is... Idk, I'm just used to buying a year ticket for public transit for like 120 bucks and using it to get literally anywhere, so it's a little underwhelming to call it a bonus of school for me.

  • Curious where you live, because non of those were a thing where I live.

Free transportation? You mean like your parents pay for it? Cus otherwise I'm confused.

Cheap food exists outside school too. Be it canteens or homemade food.

I'd argue that homework with parents more than kills any "free time" I had. Or rather I was the only kid that had free time, because I refused to do homework, ofc that meant getting yelled at by like every adult, but even slight freedom was worth it to me, even if it was lonely.

And especially bad grades do indeed mean expulsion. It also means what school you're allowed to go to, and in places like Germany even the level of education you're allowed to reach and thus dictating your fate at such a young age. As for me, I happened to always be in the good enough range of grades, because my parents kept forcing me. If it wasn't for their intervention, I'd have a complete fucking shit life now, just like all the kids with parents that didn't care. It's pure bullshit.

School is hell. Words can't expres how glad I am to have it behind me and I dread the day I'll have a kid and I'll have to see the system all over again.

  • For coding it heavily depends on the language. For example, it's quite decent at writing C#, but whenever I try to ask it any question about rust, it's either flat out wrong or doesn't even fucking compile.

Also found it most useful when I know exactly what I want, just don't know the syntax. Like when I was writing C# code generation for the first time. Also unsurprisingly sucks at working with libraries.

  • Honestly I just find it laughable. 1, because there are more nuclear red lines behinds us than I care to count. And 2, if the last Russian missile test is anything to go by, I'm more worried about a giant chain reaction blowing up all of Russia.

  • Honestly would be hilarious. Considering their last missile test launch exploded in the silo. If there was a nuke inside, it would likely cause a chain reaction blowing up adjacent missiles. Oh, imagine russia's other depo explosions that kept burning for days after the initial strike that was already strong enough to create a mushroom cloud, but like WAY BIGGER!

It's funny they took this long to saber rattle this hard, before their heavily demonstrated incompetence, I might've been a little scared.

  • Idk, it's rare for an electron app to literally not even run. Meanwhile I'm yet to encounter a python app that doesn't require me to Google what specific environment the developer had and recreate it.

  • I finally switched when I got truly familiar with the terminal in collage and then I happened to get a hand down pc to play around with. Installed Linux on it, and it surprisingly quickly became my main computer, especially once I got it a proper graphics card.

  • Idk, I decided to not work on Fridays (a 20% pay reduction, but I personally feel it's worth it) and there are like 50 weeks in a year, coupled with 5 weeks of payed vacation, since I only work 4 days that's 50+5*4=70, which is over 2 months. And since I have no homework I can actually fucking enjoy my vacation and long weekends too!

It just dawned on me I'm assuming you have the same work benefits as in Europe... If you live in a country that's not blue than YIKES! I feel sorry for ya.

  • Correction, we went from fanatical Elon worship to a sudden realization, that he's the greatest scam artist of all time (quite literally, nobody EVER burned more tax payer and inverter money) and went into sudden shock and disbelief.

  • Totally agree, except for school being better. Fuck school, from the bottom of my heart. Now I at least have the freedom to allocate some free time for my self and work on 1 thing that I understand. Not do homework for a million unrelated classes until my teachers stops bullying me or I kick the bucket.

  • I use it occasionally, in some games it looks better. Particularly games where the camera doesn't swing around as wildly, meaning NO FPS GAMES! Or any game where you're manually moving the camera all the time. I have yet to see a FPS where motion blur doesn't fucking blind me for every split second I move.

  • I mean this is less of a free speech issue and more of a lack of information and education issue coupled with foreign disinformation campaigns. And specifically for America, also a societal isolation issue. Americans outside downtown rarely get any human contact and it shows, as trust between neighbors deteriorates. This sort of stuff is far less prevalent in countries that put more value in education and building communities.

  • Not sure what a random definition without explanation, follow be so called "western propaganda", say about genocide in Russia. All you've proven is that the west claims there is genocide. That barely tells us anything at all about Russia!

Let me complete your case and actually include something from the Kremlin as opposed to only "western propaganda". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOCWBhuDdDo Here Putin explains why he started this war. He turns the interview into a 2 hour lecture about why Ukrainians don't and never existed and therefor can't have the free will to want to be independent and must be reminded of how they're all actually Russian. Now if that's not a textbook definition of genocide, I don't know what is.
