  • By design. The homeless are the permanent underclass of capitalism. They need to exist in order to strike fear into the hearts of workers, and they're expanding because they want us a lot more afraid than we already are.

  • Hah, it's complicated. The above happened in 2014 and in 2015 I found a great job at a great company. Then, five years later during Covid, it was sold to a multinational and everything went to shit. I'm still here because I can't find anything else and honestly I'm rather bad at my job, so I don't feel confident I would be able to cut it elsewhere.

Lots of growing to do still...

  • If I were to put in two weeks back to back, there's nothing they could legally do to stop me, true. But since we don't even have a union at my job, retaliation is guaranteed. Considering it took me the better part of five years to get the job in the first place, the result is that you unfortunately don't bite the hand that feeds you.

  • I once actually left a 4 year fulltime job like this. Just walked out, sent an email "peace, I'm out" and went home, never went back again.

Would still not recommend, went through some serious shit before I managed to get employed again.

  • Eh. In practice, we're fairly abused as well. I may have more holidays than my US counterparts, but in reality I can only take vacation when the schedule of the company allows it, which is never more than a week at a time at best and like three days in a row realistically.
