  • Sadly the opposite is happening right now for healthcare and research. Wages are low, housing is expensive. In the states wages are higher and housing is cheaper, its a no brainer. I've seen MASSIVE brain drain over the years, hopefully wages adjust or housing crashes or both but we definitely need to reassess our priorities.

  • I was in the same situation 2 years ago. I loved my job but there was only so far I could progress before I knew I had to leave. The problem is I had to go back to school for a few years to get a certification to progress my career. I could have took the easy way and stayed in a comfortable position but I ended up going back to school to progress my career, I just didn't see another way to advance and felt like it was the only move to make.

Best thing to do is to come in one day with a better offer and ask them to price match. If they can't then thats it in my opinion.

  • Thats actually pretty brilliant. Fire a bunch of important people/piss them off and take away their income then swoop in and offer these important and knowledgable people money for information and/or access. Who wouldn't be disgruntled after all this BS?

  • I don't know what to even think anymore. Our neighbour wants to invade us but all our talent just ends up moving to the states anyway (at least in my industry) since they can make way more money. Housing is fucked, wages are fucked, and what does buy canadian even mean? from lablaws? fuck that, everything is a monopaly up here from groceries, telecoms, everything! What does it even mean to be canadian anymore? At least we've got our principals, I'm glad we're pushing back and taking a stance but I hate the direction this country is headed. Things are bad and theres no end in sight.

  • Its improving over time, I think it'll find a decent grove as more communities pop up. I find the comment sections really engaging too I've had some solid conversations over here.
