  • Maybe NYT should question how a Zionist ideologue with no experience was put in charge of this important story, or how her uncorroborated opinion piece got past the editors and sold to the public as real news.

But of course they wont, and the damage is already done. Genocide deniers will be pointing to this discredited article in perpetuity.

  • So in this analogy, the 'people in the plane around you' are actually the Palestinian civilialians that we are genociding? And you think it is fine to financially and rhetorically support an ongoing genocide as long as domestic issues are being taken care of?

This seems to be the opposite of the "we can walk and chew gum at the same time" type of rhetoric we hear often from the Democrats.

  • One of the lessons of 2016 is that running a historically unpopular center-right candidate is an easy way to lose to Trump.

Another lesson is that a candidate who skates through the primaries on arguments of electability and "it's their turn" end up being poor candidates in the general election.

Maybe we could learn the lesson that chastising and berating anyone left of center does not win you votes, instead it supresses turnout. It is plain stupidity to go around treating leftists with contempt and hostility but then still expect us to vote lockstep with you.

Sadly it seems the DNC did not learn any lessons, because it's making the same awful mistakes that led directly to President Trump.

    1. Stop giving billions of dollars of weapons for free to a country actively committing genocide.
    2. Stop spreading false Israeli propaganda ("40 beheaded babies", "only democracy in the middle east", "human shields" etc)
    3. When Israel commits war crimes on camera, criticize them publically instead of running defense for them.
    4. Call up Netanyahu and tell him that, if he continues this war, the US will withdraw support for Israel. If it worked for Reagan, why can't it work for Biden?
  • One of the main guarantees of the US-led world order is that the Straight of Hormuz will stay open for commerce. The fact that the Houthis can shut it down is a huge blow to US hegemony.

In the modern age of drone warfare, US aircraft carriers are a liability. Sure, we can send in the USS Medical Bankruptcy carrier strike group and launch a few million dollar missiles, but the blockade stays in place.

There seems to be only two options to stop this blockade: End the genocide, or invade Yemen in a war against the Houthis. Genocide Joe can't afford to start a middle east war in an election year, so this tit-for-tat will continue into the near future.

  • Sanctions are just a tool, they can be used for good things (as you mentioned) but also bad things.

I think sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine are valid. I think sanctions against Cuba are unjustifiable and a crime against humanity. I think sanctions against North Korea are justified given the actions of the Kim regime. But the sanctions also perpetuate the problem by punishing and isolating the innocent NK populace.

Sanctions are an act of war, they should never be used lightly.

Also using sanctions, no matter how valid the reason, has been shown to significantly deteriorate human rights in the targeted country.

  • I'll say it another time:

You pressure manchin by stripping him of his committee assignments. This is huge leverage.

The chair of the energy committee is a very important and powerful position, and even after Manchin betrayed Bidens supposed agenda, the Democrats still give him this immense power. Why?

Hes already blocking all meaningful legislation, if he wants to give up his power and go caucus with republicans then let him. Call his bluff. If he would actually switch to (R) he would become just another run of the mill Republican. His donors would dry up, he wouldn't get headlines, he wouldnt matter anymore.

  • No, a few words to the media is not meaningful pushback.

Why do you avoid my main argument? Manchin is head of the energy committee. Why do Democrats keep giving so much power to a quisling, even after they were betrayed by him?

  • Maybe if the Democrats gave even a tiny amount of pushback against those "quislings" then they would deserve some credit.

After all the damage Manchin has done, they still let him chair the energy committee and sit on appropriations. I'm here in reality wondering why they continue to give quislings so much power. Its almost as if the "rotating villain" is a feature, not a bug.

"We tried nothing and we're all out of ideas" isn't good enough for me, and it's sad that so many people just accept it.

    Have some standards, mate.

  • Depends how you measure "safety".

Here in the US life expectancy is declining.

I can't afford a home, healthcare, or retirement. My parents generation could.

Climate change is doing significant damage, and it's just getting started.

But yeah, I'm less likely to be murdered. I got that going for me, which is nice.

  • I dont expect Biden to get anything through the Republican house. I dont expect miracles. It's too late now.

I expected him to do something when Democrats had control of Congress. Instead he choose to follow Obama's failures and do practically nothing when the people gave Democrats control of the House, Senate, and White House.

And if you think Democrats will actually give up their role as Lesser Evil and pass ranked choice voting, then I think you are delusional.
