  • Interesting, but how could that be done? A list of instances with a list of allowed community types?

It'd be easier to find okay instances that are okay with said topic.

  • You've got to be trolling. Lol

  • Its personally owned, someone is still legally responsible for it. Lemmy isn't designed to be a anonymous place.

If I made an instance and was paying for it, why should I listen to the users saying Nah, just do it. Its not them on the line and they later can just hop to a new instance.

Lemmy provides full control where you want to be.

  • Unless you make your own unregulated one and take the responsibility? Doubt you will though...

  • I have purchased many things, they have employees and bills to pay to put out a better product.

  • Same issue here but on mobile I picked NewPipe.

Desktop I just book marked my subs, signed out and enabled adblock. Loving it.

  • I called it a bad bot because it's become annoying, I strictly only use NewPipe on mobile because I like the features. I see this as nothing more than mass advertising with a bot to auto correct ppl.

However, with the bots I've seen here both piped.video and piped.yt do not work on my desktop or mobile devices, I have tried troubleshooting it but it's not worth too much time when I can just view the direct YT using adblock and still not have any issues.

There is no reason the website should require me to turn off protections or other things if my current settings work on YouTube already.

It is also annoying that I have bots turned off in my settings and for some reason this bot that goes around making messages is the only one I see anywhere.

  • Bad bot, NewPipe works great but the piped website is horrible and I have yet to get it to even play a video with default settings.

  • Yes, and it would still not require "any kind of technical expertise.". That doesn't mean the battery replacement process couldn't include replacing gaskets, screws, tape during the process to ensure a safe and functional device since it's still being opened. They may even sell it as a kit?

There is still so much left vague or not even mentioned, I just wish it was better off the bat. Of course, as mentioned it's a step in the right direction but there are holes that could be filled before people get screwed over.

  • What makes you think it's "just to read announcement". The initial post didn't even mention announcements, nor was it the purpose of the discord. Yet that's all you can seem to hold on to. It's already been stated there was miscommunication on one announcement and that was that.

Do you see the issue now or do you need help?

This doesn't even make sense because it appears you didn't even read the original discord post or even have an understanding about it.

    A) It's not a requirement to join discord, and never was made to be.

    B) Discord is of itself a community communication platform for IM.

    C) Millions of people actively use discord, it's a popular platform and easier then others like Matrix. If it was something I didn't already use, I would've never joined.

Your message is filled with incorrect assumptions and it appears your unwilling to go find the answers that are even on the same page as these comments. It's very surprising with the internet nowadays and people can't even seem to find information that is right in front of them, yet they act like they already have the facts.

  • It's a pretty long read but overall it's very informative and interesting if IT history is your thing. Even better if you use text to speech.

  • Why would I be active in the DC when its supposedly purpose was announcements about the site and whenever this site is down?

Could you please clarify your source, the discord post as OP mentioned doesn't read that. Lemmy.world announced their Discord server. And if you looked around the main purpose isn't focused around announcements. It seems there was miscommunication and it wasn't posted to lemmy, mistakes happen.

"Why would you assume/expect people join in a DC server to interact?"

That is sort of the point of Discord as a instant message community platform.

    I joined the discord because:

    • The internal lemmy direct messages sucks.
    • I already use discord anyways.
    • It's a great way to not spam unrelated comments. etc

    Why did you join?

  • I'm assuming the reason would've been trolling. Considering the bottom of this is all you did and didn't put a statement like "I don't agree with this channel, I think it's uncalled for" etc etc. although even that I would put into !support@lemmy.world

Just tagged a channel and said clownery with no activity in the discord really. Just wanted to add the additional context here and figured a SS would help too.

  • It's an on-going news story and case, it's an interesting one to me at least. I think there was some confusion so I went ahead and updated it.

  • Yes, with basic and common tools. Doesn't mean they have to be of quality, cheap metal screws for example. Hopefully not the case but it'd be annoying.

For example if they opt for the screw method, over the pop-off back (which I'd prefer). There will be screws to remove, most likely a gasket to replace, tape or something that ensures the battery doesn't move around etc.

Even with current battery replacements, there is more parts then just the battery during the replacement. And of course "without causing damage" except if you have to remove the back that is glass and knock it off the table, that's a +1 for apple, same if you loose a tiny screw or something else that is 1/1000 chance but Apple still makes money.

  • To be honest, some may be to an extent but I've heard of issues. The last one, I don't see how it can be address "add more parts needed, like seals, screws that strip too easily, that annoying sticky tape etc.". Because they may take extra steps to ensure durability and integrity (mainly to just make more $$ from those doing it themselves.).

I also find it odd because for me at least in the US, it cost me less than $100 for a iPhone 13 Pro Max battery replacement after a little more than 1yr of use, primarily went out due to extreme cold weather. Is the problem more towards a lack of authorized repair locations or their pricing? I'm sincerely curious what is the root issue here.

  • Yeah, that's possible. I'm more worried about a built in battery chip preventing users from sharing batteries, like once it's installed, it's activated and it's locked to that device. Meaning you'd have to buy only from that manufacture and the price will be higher.

  • I don't see how you decide what my beliefs or views are by a single message, interpreted by you. Pretty unfair to assume not to mention when I already stated "Not a bad idea". But your message makes a great point, the glass is half full and they have more work to make it full.

Of course it's a step in the right direction. However, it could be better if they included more than just requiring the battery to be removable before hand. As is we have to wait until 2027, and then further delays for adjustments to be made etc. Why not spend the time now to add to it to ensure an available market.
