Its hard to say, because I also want more niche hobbies to actually have content on lemmy. Ideally I want reddit users that only look at the front page to stay there, and every hobby subreddit user to come over.
Well it also provides my hot water for the shower, I had a completely new hot water radiator system installed with the heat pump but they are by far the most common form of system in the UK anyway. Convenient to be able to hang clothes on them to dry and the cat loves sleeping on top of it when its on as its warm.
Its not always piped in/outside. IIRC mine the refrigerant never leaves the outside unit, instead hot water (and a shitload of glycol) is pumped around between the unit and the inside of the house. My heat pump only does heating in this configuration though but because of that I got £7.5k from the UK government towards the install, more than half the total cost and that included getting all new pipework and radiators. I assume the idea is they don't want to be giving people AC as that is seen more as a luxury.
£100/year was the standing charge just to be connected to the gas network for me, had it removed as the heat pump was going in a few years ago.
Never having to worry about gas or carbon dioxide leaks is nice. Still got water leaks to worry about though, that caused some damage a while back. My standards are low enough that I would have fixed it with some duct tape and plywood but my partner doesn't consider that an acceptable level of workmanship. But at least we got a really nice shower out of it that the insurance company mostly paid for.
Its partly due to how you are measuring efficiency. It mainly moves heat rather than creates it.
Another fun way to get more heat is condensing, a dehumidifier gets over 100% efficiency if you were to use it as a heater. Heard of evaporative cooling right? Well condensing is the opposite, you get extra heat from that.
The film allows you to still see out and get a bit of light and doesn't result in your house looking like a drug den. I am aware of the foil though. How does it compare to tinfoil on cardboard?
A large part of the problem is people trying to get as much sun in the house as possible. If you don't do that its still perfectly comfortable without AC. Just open the windows overnight and shut them in the morning.
Would like to get a reflective film for the windows to reduce the sun coming through though rather than just shutting the curtains as that still lets some heat in but its better than open curtains.
In the UK it doesn't matter if its a photo of a real person or not, porn that depicts a child is illegal.
Tbh I think with the use of AI at this point this might be a pretty good law to have. "It was AI generated" is not a defence. Realistically if you are doing it for yourself no one will find out so there is some kind of argument as to it being harmless, but when you start doing other things with those images such as using them for blackmail the police should be able to use that as sufficient evidence to charge you.
Yep, and then add multiple streams at that rate.. Although it also depends on how your network is setup for how much that will matter. With the right arrangement of switches/cables you might manage it if you always stream between the same devices by just making sure that connection doesn't share an ethernet cable. But easier to go 10Gbps and not have to worry about it.
Although so far I only do 1 stream and its over wifi. Its fine but obviously ethernet would be better. Mainly use it for sticking a few games on the TV, keep talking and nobody explodes and jackbox games.
