I used to run servers a decade ago and open was fine. Never had a random join. Crazy to think bots are trying random IPs now, probably would whitelist in that case
Generally agree, AI sucks and yet I find myself having to use it anyway. Its good at doing bullshit tasks that management set that are a complete waste of my time. Life would be better if I didn't have to do these tasks but I can delegate it to a stupid AI instead and management seem to be happy with its meaningless output.

Its hard to say, because I also want more niche hobbies to actually have content on lemmy. Ideally I want reddit users that only look at the front page to stay there, and every hobby subreddit user to come over.
Well it also provides my hot water for the shower, I had a completely new hot water radiator system installed with the heat pump but they are by far the most common form of system in the UK anyway. Convenient to be able to hang clothes on them to dry and the cat loves sleeping on top of it when its on as its warm.
