  • Other states that just lazily slapped their seals on to a blue background take note and get to fixing them up please.

    As a Virginian, I take slight offfense at this! ^but ^yeah ^our ^flag ^is ^just ^the ^state ^seal ^^on ^^a ^^blue ^^background

  • The police in America are very much not trained for anything.

Police in some countries are required to obtain at least a four year degree and attend a two year police academy before they can start.

Contrast that to the city I used to live in where they had a written test to be a police officer. A written test where they had to reduce the math competency portion from a 4th grade math level to a 1st grade math level due to too many candidates failing the test. Other than that, the only other requirement is a two year degree that is very generic

  • Same here. I like the idea of Lemmy but the decentralization makes it really difficult to find the content I want. Reddits centralization, while causing some problems, definitely made it easy to find communities. That lack of ease is what makes Lemmy not as easy to use for new people.

  • My thoughts on the congressional salary is that it should be a multiplier of the minimum wage and congress can't change that multiplier. They want a raise? Then they have to raise the minimum wage for everyone

  • My thoughts on it should be that a politician can serve until the full retirement age as defined by the federal government, which is currently 67. Mental decline in later life is definitely a thing and I don't feel like people who are in the age range for mental decline should be running the country.

  • Sync for Lemmy @lemmy.world

Logging into an account with a default instsnce other rhan lemmy.world treats the instance as a remote instance

  • I actually don't mind that it is closed source, just pointing out that for some reason, there is a lot of hate towards non-FOSS apps here on Lemmy for some reason. I've used Sync for reddit almost since it first came out so migrating to using it on Lemmy was amazing

  • Honestly, I didn't really start using Lemmy until Sync for Lemmy was out. I know it's a closed source app which gets a lot of hate around here but it is already very full featured and a great browsing experience. The developer listens to user feedback and is invested in making the app the best he can.
