The argument about engagement being worth a lot is kinda silly. The initial numbers of “look at how good we can do!” immediately followed by “but everyone using it has left” isnt a good thing. Advertisers want stability not “big number for short time.”

Look at it this way: If you were an advertiser, would you go with an advertisement campaign on a site that had an average of 1000 users each and every day, or a site that had 100,000 users for a single day, and 10 for the rest of the year?

Once someone has validated their ID, that can just be added to the deepfake. I’m not seeing how needing a few extra seconds of fakery is going to solve anything.

Unless something like a TOTP identification is added, along with the current date and time displayed alongside it, there’s no real benefit to identification.

Yeah… as the son of smokers, everyone can smell the cigs on you. There’s really no escaping it.

You realize lip and gum cancer are caused by smoking as well? Not to mention teeth and skin yellowing? There are more but you get my point.

There are so many different issues caused by so many different things in cigarettes. Smoke in the lungs is just part of the problem.

I don’t really agree with that idea though. Despite the fact that the community in question didn’t really have anything that looked underage, the idea that pedophiles are going to swarm and start asking for legit CSAM seems misguided.

Firstly, pedophiles would be no more attracted to a grown adult who looks young, than a person attracted to short people would be attracted to someone who is standing on their knees.

And secondly, there are steps that do get taken, and have already been taken before, on lemmynsfw to address legitimate instances of CSAM and communities asking for or sharing it.

That last part seems to put the entire concern to rest, doesn’t it?

I’m confused on why you didn’t just turn off NSFW if you didn’t want porn in your feed?

I don’t know the logistics behind why they went that route. Eventually they upped the physical security on the electronics they were stealing, and then things just went quiet. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It was an “extra security” procedure put in place because at the time a gang had been targeting our stores by breaking in through the emergency exit, grabbing expensive electronics, and getting out in under 2 minutes. The machinery was meant to only be in place while the building was empty, with the intent of them opening the door and deciding that it would take too long to maneuver around it and instead just leave.
