What I like about console is the same as why a lot of people like apple: it just works. I have a PC for games that are not on console (eg flight simulator in VR), but for gaming, I just want to be on my couch and turn on the game. No drivers need updating (though game updates are annoying, I can usually delay them, and I can't mess them up), no "whoops now the sound doesn't work because I updated something for another game".

I think foveated rendering also helps with immersion. Being able to blur things you are not specifically looking at and are farther away is a closer match to reality.

I think the Big Mac index is a somewhat good measure of buying power since it has to source so many local ingredients.

Housing has always been an investment hasn't it? I guess you are talking about companies buying homes. I feel like that shouldn't be allowed.

It's posts like this that really make me embarrassed to be here on Lemmy. So many people here like to shake their fists at the sky and complain about how the world works. Yes, capitalism leads to major inequality. Other options are out there but also lead to major inequality. Best you can do for you and your family is to try to live well within the system, and vote for the changes you feel will best serve everyone.

Depends on how long it's been. It was thought the series you got as a child was sufficient, but some people lose their immunity in the ensuing decades. Older people are sometimes getting another dose of their titers are low, but I don't know the process to get those levels drawn.

I liked my experience on the flight simulator. Got good at flying the little Cessna around. Take off, landing, I problems at all. Decided on a new challenge. Did the landing challenge they offer. They instantly throw you into a landing random plane. It was an airliner. I tried. I fell right out of the sky way before the runway lol.

It boils down to, "here let me hold your money and if you do anything to scam the system, I get to keep it."

For people worried about finding the "good areas", it's not that tough. We stayed at a Hilton and it was super affordable to use their concierge service to get us a safe driver. He was personable and took us where we needed to go, and explained the safe and unsafe neighborhoods... Though we weren't planning on doing any walking around randomly or anything. By affordable I mean they only charged like $50 for this guy to drive us for a few hours and wait in the car while we did our sightseeing. We gave a good tip at the end and he was very happy.

South Africa is beautiful and if you can afford to get there, you can probably afford to use this kind of service to be there safely.

Before, we were splurging on instacart, but they got crazy expensive with their upcharges (MINIMUM 15% increase in item cost, + service charge, +delivery fee (or the annual delivery fee), +tip (it started to feel like 15% was too low, on top of the 15% grocery upcharge).

We stopped that and we actually spend less now even after this inflation.

There was once a man named Sam, who lived in a town named Samsville - ironic, I know. Well, Sam was a really good singer, so good that he became famous and began touring the world. Now that it was known that Sam was able to sing holy notes, his tours became infinitely times more popular. As he toured the world, Sam sung holy notes 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 and then his tour was over. After the tour, Sam decided to go back o his home town of Samsville for one last show to the people he knew and loved. He performed the show in their local church which was oddly large, and the mayor of the town attended. About halfway during the performance, Sam sung a note so horrible that it sounded like a cross between a loud metal fork being scraped across a dinner plate and a demon screeching. After he sung this note, Sam burst into flames and melted to the ground in a puddle of human goo. Everyone was so shocked, the whole church was silent. After a moment, the mayor questioned what just happened. The Father of the church looked at the mayor with a sad look and said, "don't you know mayor... Sam sung Note 7..."

I think many require another dose to re-up their immunity. I think you can get those levels checked somehow but if you are older it might be easier to just get the shot again. Check with your doctor obviously

As someone who has had all the shots and boosters but still suffering from long covid a year later, please wear a mask if you feel ill. It's not just hospitalizations that matter. A ton of people are not well enough to return to their lives years later. I'm fortunate that I have basically a light version of it, but some people cannot even walk to the mailbox anymore, and no one knows if or when they will get better.

They are still in the prototype stage. If they can prove the physics on small planes, they can scale up for commercial ones.

Everyone's dose is unique. You'd have to slowly move the dose up (without overdoing it, because edibles last awhile) to the desired effect.
