Salt is an inexpensive preservative. Without it... Not sure what else could be used.

Created something kind of neat for a former company. Was a hell of a hack job. They want to migrate it to a different platform... Haven't been there in quite some time, but I told them when we were there that it would be a mess to maintain. They still haven't migrated it.

I had an employer who fully renovated their offices to the cost of multiple millions and then dragged staff back in. I got a full remote job and haven't looked back.

My journey started innocently. I wanted some dimmers in my basement which has my office and a theater setup with 3 separate light sets. Then my wife wanted a craft area so I added another dimmer. I then bought some smart plugs to control my desk lamp and my monitors. Initially all of these devices were individually controlled either via web page or by the company app (Shelly) all within the confines of my LAN. I then spun up home assistant to see what it could do on a whim - and found it had built in hooks for my projector, receiver and Nvidia shield. When I sit down to watch a movie, I can now dim all lights, turn off distracting things (my office monitors and desk lamp), kick on the projector and control the shield to pick a movie. And if I have to use the bathroom? Pause the movie, turn up the accent lights and walk without fumbling for a single switch. Also - the dimmers are all connected to physical switches on the wall so it's not a "phone only" setup. Press the wall switch, lights come on. Hold the switch, and the lights start at their lowest point. Double click the switch and full brightness. Pretty versatile!

You are aware that there are rf solutions that provide feedback? Not saying range limitations don't exist, but there are solutions that claim to provide a fair reach.

I had a pair of physical switches that were motion sensing in my last house basement. Very handy for coming down with a laundry basket and having the lights turn on when going over to the washing machine. No connection to the Internet at all.

Agreed, but it's been working now for longer than I originally expected. I wonder if some part of their choice base totally relies on that being available...

This seems fair - especially when you start looking at how Google seems to be continually further hindering file access in Android in the name of Security. I use my file system a fair bit on my phone and it just keeps getting worse with every new android release.

My CX5 is similar, buttons for all things not entertainment. There's only one out of place design on the car that irks me - it doesn't have a setting to change whether the mirrors fold or not. Why is this useful? I'm in the Midwest and in the winter they can get stuck overnight due to ice. So they have a convoluted process (without an audible or visual confirmation mind you) to disable or enable. Ignition on, lock the windows. Press all three passenger window buttons on the driver's door down for 3 seconds. This would have been so much nicer to be in a menu off of the entertainment system, similar to say the lighting timing upon exit etc.

Same. I only really paid attention to day one to day three of symptoms, but my body battery was super low on day two plus non stop stress through the first night (fever that broke around 4am)

This right here. Got a pixel a year ago.. Holy shit. Was wondering why I literally get zero spam calls after formerly only owning Samsung phones... Google Assistant screening everything is just fantastic for my ADHD brain.
