what phone(s) do you use and what's the default web browser on them?

iPhone 13 Pro. I was using Edge, since I also use it on my PCs, but I've recently been experimenting with Firefox (on both PC and mobile).
It was much worse than the first debate. Several times the moderators lost control. At one point Haley and Scott were arguing about the curtains of then Ambassador Haley's office/residence. Like literal window dressing.
There were some good questions asked, and I give it to the moderator from Univision for occasionally asking or saying things that were a bit outside of typical Republican talking points. But for the most part, it was just watching dodgeball.
I think the only good thing I heard come out of it was the forcefulness of those who were pro-Ukraine against Vivek's anti-Ukraine talk. Plus they jumped on him for his Chinese business connections, as he tried to play-up his anti-China rhetoric.
But none of that matters when Trump is still like 30-40pts ahead of all them. And he wasn't even there.
I cancelled my Planetside 2 subscription earlier this year after like 7yrs of being a member. But that's the only one so far. I still pay for Eve Online and FFXIV, along with all my other media subscriptions. I have Spotify (+ Hulu for free as some kinda bundle), Amazon Prime Video, Crunchyroll, and Netflix.
The only other one I've considered cancelling is Netflix. But I share my account for free with a co-worker. I know Netflix is supposed to be cracking down on password sharing, but so far, I haven't heard anything from Netflix chiding me. Interestingly, she used Netflix way more than me; I rarely use it, So it almost makes sense for me to cancel it and have her get her own account. But I like having Netflix available for when I do want to watch something. And WTH is $15/mo? If neither of us were using it, I'd be more likely to cancel. When Netflix comes knocking, then maybe I'll cancel it. But for now, it's NBD.
I think he should resign.
However, I get the political aspect of this. And it's impossible to ignore. Like others have mentioned, Al Franken resigned immediately and look what good that did. And that was over something pretty mild, not even criminal.
In addition, this is another example of Democrats and liberals always playing by the rules, trying to stick to the high road, while Republicans and conservatives refuse to abide by the rules, outright changing them if needed/wanted. A GOP pol would never resign for anything so "petty" as corruption. And we'd kinda expect that to be the case. Some of us might grumble but then move on. But we sure do expect Democrats to "Do the right thing," even if it costs us.
And it doesn't matter if we choose the high road. If Menendez resigns, Republicans point and say, "Look! Democrats are corrupt!" If he doesn't, they say, "Well why should our own who are accused of misconduct resign if Democrats won't do it?!" And voters will eat it up.
It sucks, because this creates a race to the bottom. But what if he's found not guilty? Was it worth it? To take the high road? For what? And if he is found guilty...well so what? What does any of this actually get us? Other than moral superiority?
So do I still think he should resign? Yeah, probably. But maybe let's not be so hasty. Let's see where this goes.
I have a Google Voice number. Completely free. I used to give out to clients instead of my actual cell number. So that when I left, I could just recycle the number. Never recycled it, but I still use it as a backup/for trash purposes.
Though some systems out there that need a phone number do block Google Voice numbers during registration.
It's kinda funny. I was a mod on reddit (I guess technically still am) and I've always felt that mod tools on reddit were very poor. Having to use Toolbox and RES and such. And moderating on the go from the official app was garbage (thank god for Apollo).
Then I get here to Beehaw, where I volunteer to mod again. And I find the mod tools are even worse! I get that most people didn't leave reddit because of poor mod tools. It was the API and content moderation issues that drove people away. But still, I was expecting Lemmy to have at least equal capabilities.
Been pretty good so far. Last week, I went to visit my parents and brother in Las Vegas. It was a working vacation as I'm full remote. Brother and I checked out a couple bars at Resort World casino. Pretty nice place.
On Saturday, him and I drove down to the Los Angeles area to check out Long Beach along with some of the other beach towns. We didn't go all out or anything. Had dinner and drinks in Long Beach on Saturday night, then on Sunday we did a little walking around the beaches around Long Beach. On Monday, we walked around Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach. Then went back to Vegas in the evening, where I caught a fly back home ~10hrs later. Got home yesterday afternoon. Good trip, glad I got to see my family.
First day back online for work this week. And my co-worker essentially ambushed me into doing a mini-workshop for her subordinate (my other co-worker) on how to use Word. In 2023. Simple stuff, too, like tabs vs spaces for horizontal alignment. And line spacing. And indentations. It's 2023. I don't understand how her subordinate graduated from college...This person is like 27, too. Not someone who grew up using a typewriter or something. Ridiculous.
When we moving to another platform again? 🙃
The more I look at Lemmy...the more I think this platform is just not ready for primetime. I suppose that's obvious since its version is still sub 1.0. Idk.
I'm a pretty hardcore FF fan who bought FF16 Day 1. I enjoyed it enough. Enough that I finished it, when I've only finished two other entries: FF6 and FF10. Neither here nor there, but I usually get pretty close to finishing the games....but then take a break, for like years. Yeah, I have a problem.
Anyway, it's not like 16 was my favorite FF ever. Nor the worst; just middle of the pack.
I don't play a lot of active battle games; I like FFs and other JRPGs for the traditional turn-based combat, which 16 did not have. But I also get that that's a niche market these days and consumer tastes change. I actually like that SE has been experimenting with different combat systems over the years in FFs.
Either way, the fighting system was easy enough for a bad like me to enjoy. But I will also say that the game still felt overly simplistic. A lot of big fights had "cutscene fights," where you had QTEs; simple QTEs where you literally just have to mash X or something.
The accessories/equipment system was super simplified down to weapon and 3 accessories. Of course you should upgrade your weapon, so there's no customization there. And most of the accessories were worthless, IMO. There were only a few that really stood out so I used those for most of my run.
Even learning the various summons and their powers was basic. Like it seemed like the system was in place to allow people to choose their own combat style, but that also largely meant that once you settled on a style, there was no reason change unless a stronger summon/power for that style came up. I never felt forced to learn and use a specific summon for a certain fights or anything.
In a way, because SE tried to cater to both the JRPG crowd and the non-JRPG crowd, they ended up with a somewhat mediocre game, that disappointed both groups. Again, FF16's not a bad game, but it's not great. Like you said, it's just "meh."
Huh, I don't think I've ever taken ephedrine. Is it stronger than the pseudo version? Sudafed (or generics) usually works just fine for me, since I use it for stopping a runny nose.
Anyone who's ever taken phenylephrine knows this. Especially we allergy sufferers. It's worthless.
I've always gone to the counter (in the US) to get actual pseudoephedrine (Sudafed).
Flying out to visit my parents and brother this evening, so that's pretty good.
What's not very good is that my Mom got caught COVID for the first time last week. Then my brother says that he's tested positive, though he's not feeling anything. So yeah, I'm flying into the hot zone apparently. And as far as I know, I've never gotten COVID. That new booster that just got approved by the FDA can't come soon enough.
Either way, it'll be good to have the whole family together for about a week.
I picked up Starfield on Friday. I'm not very far into it after 12hrs. Been doing side quests and such around New Atlantis and exploring. So far, it's fun enough. This is the first Bethesda game I've played since Fallout 3 (which I didn't finish). So I've kinda come into this mostly blind, which I think is a good thing. It reminds me a bit of Deus Ex: HR/MD, probably because of all sidequest and explo that I'm doing.
Also restarted Triangle Strategy last week or so, after putting it down for a year or two. Had it for the Switch, but then picked it up for the Steam Deck. Been taking my time with that as well.
In FFXIV, I'm in the post-Shadowbringers DLC content. I've taken a bit of a break from the MSQ to get the Nier-themed alliance raids, along with the "Eden" full-party raids. I've so far only opened two of the three Nier alliance raids, and god are they difficult. But that difficulty means they're tons of fun. I think I've got the first one down pretty well, though I've yet to complete it without dying at least twice due to not paying attention to boss telegraphs. The second one is gonna take me a bit more to get through without dying left and right. Prioritizing these over the "Eden" full-party raids at the moment. Did get my MCH to 90 during all the raiding, which means I now my second Lvl 90 class, the first being RDM. Think I might try a healer class next, just not sure which one.
What does "Print Support App" mean? Please don't tell me it's like that garbage HP Smart stuff.
So many of those old adventure games were hilarious. The Monkey Island series, Day of the Tentacle, Leisure Suit Larry, Space Quest. But I was also a kid back then (probably shouldn't have been playing Leisure Suit Larry...). I wonder if they'd still hold up for me today.
Turns out to be this guy.
I think I've tried a couple times solo, but never really put serious effort into it. So I'd play for like 30min then just quit. I think the bad experience with my friends made me just avoid it. Realistically, it just happened to be Factorio that we were playing that time; it could've been any game. And it has happened in other games. The one friend who was the worst offender, I rarely play games with anymore. It's silly, I know.
However, one day, when I'm bored and looking at my Steam library, I will make the attempt again. I feel like I should, but I just don't know when that might happen. The picking Factorio part; I'm frequently bored staring at my Steam library!
I have a friend who has ADHD. The other day he mentioned he was getting back on medication after taking a year off or so, as well as trying a different medication.
Anyway, we started talking more about ADHD and how it's affected his life and his struggles with it. While I have other friends who have it, none have ever really explained how it affects them. And, to me as someone who's neurotypical, it was fascinating and mindblowing. And also sad, because it's clearly affected his life so negatively and he hates it.
For example, he mentioned he sometimes has problems remembering tasks or other things he has to do. So I mentioned like using a paper or app-based list or post-it notes. Which of course he's tried, but he has to remember to do that. And because of ADHD, he forgets or doesn't think to do that in the moment. And there were so many situations he was telling me about where there's some "simple" solution that he's aware of or behavior that his therapists have suggested, but because of ADHD, it just doesn't happen. It's so difficult for him to build these habits.
He's successful enough, having been able to graduate college and get his career going and all that. And had he not mentioned before that he has it, I probably wouldn't have known, other than maybe noticing his tendency to get distracted. Unfortunately, he feels like he's been "held back" somewhat in various facets of his life because of ADHD.
I'd never heard the personal side of ADHD before. Only ever the "clinical" descriptions. I'm glad he shared it with me. It helps me understand him a little more, and hopefully I'll be able to better understand those I may come across who also have it.
Gloria Victis. It's an MMO with factional PVP warfare that uses directional combat (like Mordhau). I'll admit, I'm not a fan of these games, but I gave it a try since a friend of mine was interested in it. And I do like MMOs for the story content and to see what players can do with and within the world.
It was horribly boring. The main draw of the game is its PVP, but they definitely tried to also cater to the PVE playerbase, but the quests and story were generic and forgettable. I never even got to try the PVP, which I think my friend said was just OK anyway. I stopped playing after like a week. Apparently, the game is shutting down end of October, after releasing back in February 2023.
Another is the first Watch Dogs. I had played and completed Watch Dogs 2 and really liked it a lot. So thought to try the first one. I knew it was a very different mood and style from WD2, but thought it'd be OK. I can deal with moody and edgy. But it just wasn't at all fun or interesting. I think I played for a couple hours and then uninstalled.
Yeah I know they all use Webkit. I don't really care about the rendering engines.
At least the other browsers have various features that make them nice to use in concert with their desktop counterparts. Shared history and tabs, shared bookmarks, etc. I think Safari does that with MacOS devices, but I don't have a Mac anymore, and Safari is no longer available on Windows. Even when I was using a Mac daily, I didn't use Safari anyway.
