  • I've seen similar problems on actual escalators. It might not slice your fingers off, but if your arm was stretched out it would snap your arm off at least. But then again I have a phobia of elevators and escalators so it is particularly apparently to me. I blame that Resident Evil movie when the person got their head cut off trying to exit a stalled elevator.

  • I think they are wanting world building on a smaller scale. Although I don't think world building is really about any particular size. If the entire setting took place on Earth or it spanned the entire universe, the amount of world building could be the same.

  • Yes it is. Loosely based on it at least.

  • I don't care much for the interoperability between Mastodon and Lemmy, but having more users from Mastodon come to Lemmy sounds good to me.

  • Imagine it is a lot time ago and you observe that things fall when you drop them in the air. You want to figure out how fast they are falling. You can either apply some kind of scientific method to do an experiment, record the results and get an answer or you can not do that. Which I wouldn't count as an alternative to science. It is just the absence of science.

  • Unless we are talking about simply not doing math and instead doing cocaine. I'd say cocaine is a bad alternative to science.

  • The question doesn't make any sense. There is no alternative to science.

  • For sure. I don't mind moderating on Lemmy because nobody is making any money here. I'm doing something because I want to. However, I'm not going to do something even if I want to if someone else is making money from my efforts and not giving my me fair share. Whatever that may be.

  • Probably just fools. Working for a corporation that makes money from your work without sharing any of it with them. Nobody should be moderating on Reddit without getting paid.

  • You are the only user with the username Efwis@lemmy.zip. Nobody else can have that username.

  • Moderator rewards program? How much money are they going to be paying them?

  • I'm sure it will be like most of the movie industry these days that only know how to make super hero movies. It will have no depth, the dialogue will be shallow and the action will be 85% of the movie. But as awful as it will potentially be I am still a sucker for space battles and the like. I could probably watch a 2 hour film of just spaceships shooting eachother.

  • No, putting ads in software to the point that it is annoying enough to pay someone to make them go away. Selling software without this strategy is respectable.

  • All of my bank accounts? Checking, Savings, HSA, 401k and IRA? While significant I don't think I'd really do anything different than I am doing now.

  • You have ads on Lemmy though. Which is free and open source software whos developers disagree with the idea of an ad driven internet. Paying for it to remove the ads isn't any better though as you are rewarding this kind of behavior.

  • What is the alternative? For nothing to ever be successful? To let the gaming market continue to degrade into microtransaction hell?

I don't even agree with their premise that it makes it harder for similar games in the genre to succeed. The popularity of BG3 will probably make people more interested in the genre regardless of how amazing it is. As long as it is priced accordingly. I would buy a smaller scale CRPG game if it were $20-$30.

  • They are inviting me to give them money? How generous of them. 😑
