No, because there are already locations in the world where clean grids exist. Focusing on AI use as an environmental problem is not helpful. Focus on the source of the energy, not it's uses.

I don't think any data centers would be using ground water for cooling. They'd likely be on closed loop systems. And the power draw is only an issue if we decide to not fix where the grid gets its power from.

Indian Point was water cooled, hence the river water leakage and heating concerns. Water cooled plants don't have those huge stacks you're talking about. Those only exist on air cooled plants.

I think you're really overthinking it. I'd say the vast majority of people paying simply came across something they wanted to see, and paying for it is faster and easier (and safer) than trying to search it out for free.

Assuming my setup is typical, the dryer is on a 240V circuit. The washing machine is on a 15A 120V circuit.

Remote start through an app I guess? At least that conceivably requires an ongoing cost on their side to justify it (although I'd be willing to bet there's a 10,000% markup on it). Will be annoying if they are using a 3G chip for the data connection and 3G gets shut down like 2G did.

As for the AWD thing, it's the coupe part that's hard. The Germans all make a coupe with AWD available, Lexus has the RC, and that's about it (since the challenger is end of production), other than supercars that are out of my price range.

Toyota is doing the subscription thing too? I didn't hear about that one. I only heard about BMW, Mercedes, and now Audi.

The law doesn't give a shit about optics. If it's in the contract, they owe the money. This type of pay structure (base pay + defined bonus) is the norm across many industries, not just media.

Also, these aren't exec bonuses. CBC does not have 1100 executives.

So those employees got an average bonus of $13,000. Not nothing, but hardly c-suite insane levels of compensation.

Also, what do the relevant employee contracts look like? A lot of the time bonuses are built into the contract and tied to very specific metrics. If that is the case, the CBC would have to pay out that bonus, regardless of the overall state of the company.

As much as I'd like that regime to disappear, I wouldn't go so far as to invade Russia. Putin's nuclear sabre rattling is obviously bullshit when it comes to Ukraine, but backing them that far into the corner with an invasion is probably one of the few things that brings a real nuclear risk. I'd be more for the "measured" response of hunting down and eliminating any Russian assets found outside Russian borders, perpetually until the Russian people chose a leader who is capable of living in civilized society.

I was reading a different article about this last week. Apparently the UK parent already filed for bankruptcy a while back. The Canadian branch was actually doing OK, but the parent company siphoned off all profits and took them down with them.

Same. Came across to me as a soap opera that happened to have zombies, when I was hoping for more of a George A Romero vibe.

It's already gone in North America. China is aiming for 2025 (or already gone, depending on which Google result I click), and and it was gone in Japan a long time ago. Nissan sells more cars in each of those three markets alone than all of Europe. And 2G is already gone in many European countries. It makes no sense for them to keep it just for the UK market.

It's because of the 2G networks being shut down. And this isn't specific to Leafs, it's all cars that used 2G for their data connection. This already has taken place in other countries, and I imagine Nissan no longer wants to support two versions of the app.

We aren't talking about small scale manufacturing vs large scale. It's large scale either way. Your analogy doesn't work.

We have that. They're called unions. Of course, that's also at risk, since half the population seems OK with breaking union power.
