  • Tesla would be smart to split up their product line into into different corporations and block Musk from involvement.

Their supercharger network is big enough that it could be its own company, especially now that other non-Tesla vehicles can charge at them. It’s basically the EV version of an international gas station chain at this point.

Their Powerwall & Megapack solutions are also a separate product line that could be spun off (along with whatever solar products they have).

When most people think of Tesla these days they mostly think of the cars, and Musks association with it has clearly caused significant harm to that product line. By rebranding the supercharger network and storage business and removing any association with Musk they at least have a chance to see those products succeed without the negative stigma he brings.

I do think it’s too late for the Tesla EV’s though, unless the Tesla board of directors makes major leadership changes. And I don’t see that happening any time soon.

  • It would take literally years of positive actions on his part to try to rebuild his trust. But I don’t think Tesla has years at this point given the flood of EV options that are becoming available from established automakers as well as other startups like Rivian.

  • Fireworks are legal in New Hampshire but not Massachusetts. The MA police will stake out NH firework shops near the border before July 4 and pull over MA cars they see loading up once they cross back into the state…

  • But not even the OK half of that chart is set in stone unless you have an obviously American surname like Smith or Jones. You could be a white fifth generation American with a surname that sounds remotely middle Eastern, east European, etc. and you could be in for a rude awakening…

  • I won’t drive the cybertruck or any of the other newer generation X’s and S’s since they all have yolks instead of steering wheels. A few years back I was rear-ended by a drunk driver on a highway. With about 1/2 second warning I suddenly found myself spinning 360 degrees across 3 lanes, and I was trying my best to steer out of it. I seriously doubt I would have been able to do that with a yoke. My hands likely would have missed as I tried to reposition them.

The yokes, like so many other “features” seem like nothing more than glitz that Musk demanded to differentiate Teslas from other cars. If an independent authority tests yokes vs. wheels in situations like that crash and finds the yokes are as good or better then I’d consider driving a car with one. But given Musk is now trying to kneecap things like NHTSA I’m most definitely not going to hold my breath.

  • If Musk is removed AND major changes are made to the brand then Tesla might have a long term chance in the US market.

I bought a Tesla before the Musk craziness was in full display, and I can honestly say I wouldn’t buy another one (or recommend them to others) unless they seriously redesigned the physical controls, and focused more on truly useful software features. Not just games, “fart mode”, and a full self driving system that’s been promised for a decade now…

  • It’s because they grow up in an environment where they never learn the word “no”, money solves every problem, etc. Because they are raised in such a sheltered way they learn to believe that they’re never wrong about anything, so they are natural born leaders.

The four years of the first Trump administration was likely a rude awakening for people like Ivanka.

  • According to wikipedia, among other things:

In 2012 (by far Ukraine's most successful year of arms export)[11]Ukraine had the status of world's 4th largest arms exporter.

If they were the worlds 4th then they were likely doing a lot more than just the former USSR.

  • Except there are ways around that if you’re not careful.

Back in the 90’s I was active with the USCG in the Boston area. Most comms were done over marine VHF radio, but they had a secondary encrypted radio they could use when desired. The problem with that encrypted radio system was the audio quality wasn’t great and the range was limited, so in the later half of the 90’s as cell phones became more popular they switched to that for private comms. The quality was much better and the range extended to virtually anywhere you had line of sight to shore.

So you would need any recording system to securely record all communications along with a way to correlate them.
