That's sad, but not unexpected. The studio had pretty massive layoffs a few years ago I think when their Overwatch clone didn't sell well. And this Saints Row reboot didn't do well either.
Hope all the good people here find some work, one of my favorite LPers worked there and he's a good guy. Sucks he and others have been jerked around twice like this.
I know what the saying means, that's why I put the end part about politics and said literal when it came to trees.
Any "trees" these guys wanted to build that they'll never see the shade of can be long before 65 and can be done in other none elected roles afterwards.
“A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.”
In my scenario I would look forward to these old men planting literal trees during their retirement then. Taking a page from Carter's book. Or if they do still want to be involved in politics, they can be aides, advisers, and lobbyists.
How is it democratic that you have to be 35 and a natural born citizen to be elected president? It may take a Constitutional amendment just like that, but I think it is a good idea regardless.
That is true, but then my second reason comes into play. Even if they are perfectly functional, they are at retirement age. Their stake in what government policies are formed goes down immensely. They have like 10-15 years left on average. Leave it to the people whose policies will actually affect them.
Everyone in elected office over the age of 65 should be forced to retire. At best, they've done their duty and deserve to rest and enjoy the fruits of their labor. At worst, they're nonfunctional skeletons that don't even have skin in the game when it comes to government.
It's a multifaceted problem and will require multiple solutions to address. Those are always the most difficult solutions because they're expensive up front and may not show results immediately.
They also mention that the majority of homeless aren't that. So this is a nuanced story I think. We may be able to help the majority of the homeless simply by giving them money and/or housing. But for the ones suffering from addiction, mental illness, or entrenched homeless, this won't be a magic bullet. It will probably take drug and mental health counciling. It probably won't completely get rid of homeless, and the ones it won't help are the most visible and most problematic.
But we can't let perfect be the enemy of good. And we already know our current approach is not even to the level of good.
It's a fair question to ask. Any time civil liberties are curtailed, there should be questioning. There should be coverage.
But in a case of a smaller country being invaded by a world power, their options might just be use every tool available or accept losing their sovereignty because a more powerful nation wants their land. And we also need to acknowledge that and say it out loud. If you don't think the war and loss of civil rights is worth protecting their sovereignty and the right to be a country, admit that up front. That it sucks, but that you think the benefits outweigh the costs.
My one question would be, was there a vote to fight a defensive war when Ukraine was invaded? Is that something invaded countries even do? I'm honestly asking the question. Because if there was a fair and free vote, and the majority voted to defend their land, then it seems like they're fine with it.
Where/when does this popup come up? Is it in your browser, is it a Windows notification?
The most recent time I think I saw this was the latest Windows 11 update, but you can just click No and it goes away. Microsoft is being annoying persistent about getting people to use Bing now because of ChatGPT and Edge though. Hopefully there is a limit, if not the annoying Linux recommendations might actually start to have some merit.
This is an Apple miss. Their tendency for status equaling heavy materials and lack of obvious options just makes it a no-go for me. Noise cancelling, wireless, over the ear headphones exist for airplanes. Having a headset that is heavy, that doesn’t fold and can’t be turned off (only put to sleep in a dumb bra-like case) don’t meet that mark.
I’m sure they sound great and the magnetic ear cups a good idea, but this is a miss for me. The price is the final nail in the coffin. My Sony XM4s sound nearly as good, can be worn for long flights without fatigue, fold up, and because they’re light but sturdy plastic I’m not worried about them denting or anything like that if I drop them. And I didn’t have to pay over $500 for them.
Nowadays especially so. It’s like Android vs iOS. Both OSes are good and now so are Windows, Linux and macOS. Use whatever you prefer, just know how to use it so you don’t blow up non-issues.
It literally feels like a blast from the past. I remember being on forums in the 90s and early 2000s hearing all this Linux evangelism. Then I say "the second a user has to touch a command line, they're out" and everyone acts like this isn't a reasonable take.
Thankfully though, Linux has evolved and ChromeOS and Android have shown how lower needs users and limited platforms like mobile can use Linux and not have to deal with the complexity of old-school Linux.
Yeah, that’s what the dev says, but I haven’t seen any details on what that deal is. As for NSFW content, all you need to do to get around that is to be a mod of a NSFW sub. I created one, set it to private and have been able to see NSFW posts and subs for weeks in both apps with no problem. It has been weeks and both Comet and Narwhal still work with no issues, and they aren’t the only apps that are still functional.
The whole thing just feels weird after the dust has settled.
Probably not as bad, but it is an inevitability I think. Once you get a certain age, major shifts are just more difficult to adjust to. On a smaller scale for example, I don't understand things like Tiktok, Snapchat, etc. I'm a millennial that will be hitting 37 this month, so my adjustment to social media ended with Instagram basically.
