  • I don't think females has ever been used by males to describe a potential partner of the opposite sex, except for groups of males that are notorious for their misogyny. While yeah there's been a bunch of different terms tried over the decades women was always on the table. It's kinda telling that it's been uncomfortable for some males for so long, especially since it's the easiest choice.

  • Your text is too readable, I think it needs to be aliased a lot more. It also wasn't uncommon to see a black box around text. Your text looks good on the background, it shouldn't. There should be something between the text and background.

  • I have, and it's pretty presumptuous of you to speak for an entire group of diverse people like that. Artist can't agree on what art is let alone if any one method is superior to another. I will say I've perceived there is a lot more anxiety than excitement over Generative AI but it would be foolish to assume that there is a consensus.

Artist is probably the second most diverse term for a group of people I can think of, behind the word people. Off the top of my head Corridor Digital embrace AI. They're pushing it's boundaries and are acutely aware that AI is destabilizing. Unless you don't consider them artists. I am not implying that they speak for all artists, or even that their opinion is aligned with the majority opinion. I'm merely providing an example of positive discourse on the subject.

  • Couldn't agree more! Capitalism sucks! Also to add on to that, artist haven't come to many consensies about generative AI. The only one I think everyone can agree on is that it'll be disruptive, and makes the future for people who earn a living creating art even more uncertain than it already was. Whether that future is good or bad is entirely up for debate, although I think it'll land somewhere in the middle. Regardless of any of that, Pandora's box is open and it can't be closed.

  • I can appreciate that you understand that you made a very stupid mistake. I hope this is a learning experience for you to read the entire context before making an off the cuff remark like that. You shouldn't be apologizing to everyone, you should apologize to the two people you who's grief you belittled accidentally. You shocked us, you may of hurt them.

  • Absolutely, but they weren't arraigned as far as the article suggests. Also the language of the article is really suggestive. Intolerance can not be tolerated, and perhaps the police coming around to have a chat with intolerant people is a good thing. It's concerning it happened but yeah, doubtful that's the full story.

  • Protecting creative jobs is extremely important, full stop. AI generation is a destabilizing development, I don't want to see it locked up in walled gardens or thrown away though. What I hope to see is a new generation of artists pushing the boundaries with open source AI tools. Yeah a lot of that's going to be bespoke porn... What am I even saying...?

We're just apes with fancy tools afterall. The same things were said about photoshop and digital art. We'll be fine, just get stocked up with some brain bleach.

  • When I lived in a very small apartment in a very large city, I quickly learned to clean as I cook. A few dishes can take up all the counter space when there's so little to begin with. Since then I've moved to a smaller city and a larger place but I've taken that habit with me. Now when I'm done cooking I only have a few dishes left and a sink of hot water to wash them in. Took some planing and a few mistakes to figure out how but I think it is a skill I should hold on to.

  • Tell me about it, my inability to recognize my own achievements is almost pathological. Work extra to get a difficult but interesting project out on time then deflect any praise provided after is a sure fire way to never get noticed.

  • The design of the graph aside, I would really like it to include something for public transit. A train may take 1 kWh to travel 1 Km but if that train is carrying 150 - 450 passengers how much more efficient is it than an electric car? What about a bus, light rail, or subway?

  • My reply is totally unrelated to this thread. You seem to be very amped up about this. Reading your comments in this thread you really have a strong opinion on the USA, which is not your country. Which means you have as much influence in it as I do, basically none. My question/point, do you know why you're so amped up about this?

  • I wouldn't count them out quite yet. Thomas Bangaltar and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo are still producing stuff each on their own. Sometimes they even collaborate on the same project. I don't think there will be another Daft Punk album or song but I suspect their hands are going to be on a lot of work.

  • The only reason I don't completely despise Windows is because it, along with Mac OS, has made computing available for the masses. The average person doesn't have the time to learn how to use a computer. They just want to use it. That in my subjective opinion is a good thing. A very strong, and valid argument could be made that it's a faustian bargain, probably because it is.

  • I just got one and deciding to get one is very situational. I'll sit outside with my dog for hours and I can't bring my desktop outside. For me it's been great. I wouldn't recommend one to someone unless they know when they'll use it.

I thought I'd use it commuting too, but I don't. It's just a little too awkward to bring on my commute.

  • Pearson's must have one hell of a contract with educators cause that shit hasn't improved at all in 20 years. One prof we had for multiple courses rallied against it. They eventually gave up and just carried over the grades to the gradebook. It's remarkable how quickly teaching in academia can knock a person down.
