  • If you're living in a rural area, they tend to be very blue (national) for financial policy reasons, but from what I've seen are reasonably accepting of different sexualities etc.

As far as tourist areas are concerned, I don't think they will be significantly different from urban areas, there's not really a link between political views and being into the outdoors.

  • Honestly, I've never had a particularly high opinion of the Spinoff. Their articles are often waffle pieces that could say the same thing with half the words, and there's often an air of arrogance around their reporting.

    I won't miss them.

  • Oh, jesus christ.

I'm starting to think the marine industry needs to take a good, hard look at the helm and autopilot systems in use, it sounds like they're far more difficult to operate than they need to be.

It's also been a major factor in two different vessel groundings, just with NZ flagged vessels.

  • So, because the police want to go from having firearms in the car and easily accessible, to carried on their person, that means they want to be able to execute people in your mind?

Okey dokey. I knew Lemmy had some cooked takes as far as policing is concerned, but I thought this instance was a bit more reasonable.

  • They copped a lot of criticism for not having enough Maori on staff, not enough Te Reo in their broadcasts etc, and I think they're overcompensating a bit.

Also, why exactly will so many Maori men be having negative interactions with the police?

  • Yeah, I wouldn't trust these guys as far as I can kick them, they've done some dodgy stuff in the past.

One example was picketing the Hobbit premier over alleged animal abuse, which was the first time they publicallly mentioned it.

You'd think they would go public while the abuse was happening, right?

  • I've been to Wanaka, and it's one of the few parts of that area of NZ that still felt "real". Queenstown, on the other hand, just felt so manufactured, I really don't like the place at all.

I can definitely see how a McDonald's would change the place for the worst.
