  • I've been getting these 1-3 times a day every day for the last month.

  • Anything that makes operating systems more open and free I'm all for.

Unfortunately Google Play services exist, but still.

  • Addicted to meth? That's jail time. Wait, you're a mother and you're pregnant? That's super jail time, 15 years for you. Have to fuck over your kids' lives as much as possible. You also don't get medical care and you have to give birth in a fungus-infested jail shower. Definitely ethical treatment under law here!

  • I would say try Gnome. If you don't like it, use KDE. Those are the 2 big ones right now so they'll be the most reliable. Gnome is either love it or hate it, KDE is very vanilla. I personally use Gnome, because I love the workflow.

  • It's modern and faster, has more features, and supports X11 apps. If your hardware is friendly with it, it's pretty much a straight upgrade. Problem is not all hardware supports is well.

  • Learning Team Fortress 2 for the first time as a teenager was such a crazy fun experience.

  • This, plus the fact that the US refuses to be even slightly critical of Israel, whether media or state.

  • I feel like because Lemmy is smaller, I get more responses. So I like interacting on Lemmy more, but I don't think I do it more frequently.

  • Hamas' terrorism is bad, but it's also a predictable result of treating Palestinians like subhuman cattle for generations. Israel had the power to prevent situations like this, but they used it to oppress instead.

  • Israel has a significant of position of power over Palestine that they are using to enforce an Apartheid state instead of pushing for progress. Yes, governments representing both regions have done bad things going back centuries, but today Palestine's terrorism speaks to their desperation, while Israel's terrorism speaks to their willingness to be cruel to civilians.

  • I agree that it's more of a semantics game. Religious faith is different from a faith in secular theories and hypotheses. One is based on superstition, while the other on reasonable probability. That said, the answer to the question "why do you believe in anything if knowledge can never be guaranteed" always ends up being some variation of "faith" in my experience, whether the beliefs are secular or religious, but I know there are those who disagree and/or will categorize these things differently based on their choice of language.

  • Again, antitheism does not have the defining characteristics of religion. And what you're pointing to is state violence, which again, is not an issue today since antitheists do not hold institutional power, are considered a fringe group, and would generally not accept a state-sponsored genocide of religious people. I feel like you are arguing against the ghost of Stalinism.

  • Couple of thoughts:

    1. Atheism is not a religion. Religion is defined by doctrine and rituals, atheism has neither. It is the absence of religion. Some argue that atheism requires faith when compared to agnosticism, which is fair, but it does not make it a religion per se.
    2. Antitheism typically stands on the ground that religion has been used to justify atrocities. It posits that religion is poisonous due to its effect on people and its ability to control their behavior to do irrational or evil things. Antitheism is not misanthropic in nature, nor is it trying to persecute people for their religion (at least not inherently), it is just the belief that a purely secular would would be more harmonious.
    3. The idea that a minority group like antitheists have started the beginning stages of a "genocide" against religious people just because they find their beliefs to be harmful is absurd, even at face value. Even atheists hold no institutional power anywhere in the world and antitheistic, hardline anti-religion beliefs tend to be fringe, even among atheists.

tl;dr - Generally disagree about everything

  • 150 tabs??? What the hell are you doing on your browser?

  • A compatibility layer that lets you run native windows games on Linux through Steam. It's gotten better and better over the years and supports a majority of popular games now.

  • It's a Linux app.

  • Claiming is a Java mod, so it's not possible in Vanilla Bedrock.

  • Mint is hugely over-recommended to new users imo. The fact that it doesn't have an option for a DE like Gnome 3 or KDE just kinda sucks at teaching newbies what to expect. Cinnamon also feels kinda jank in my opinion, looks old and unattractive.

  • Alternatively: You can prevent this. Use a different operating system.

  • I don't really understand why you would do anything other than native install unless you really, really need the performance.

Edit: 5 months later and I recognize this was a shit take.
