  • I apologize for the unrelated question, but does anyone know why some headlines are so scared to use the word 'and'? The comma is so out of place and makes it unecessarly hard to read

  • While I agree with you, EU is currently expected to enforce client side scanning on all devices in the EU, basically outlawing e2ee. Where the fuck are we supposed to live that isn't a fascist hellhole?

  • Same here. It's not because the trilogy before was a 9/10, that Andromeda was garbo just because it was a 7 or 8/10

  • The hate on telegram is easy to explain. The server is closed source and you need to give them your phone number. Yes it's better than whatsapp. But it's worse than matrix or xmpp.

  • Nothing absolutely needed, it's just a convenience factor. For example you can program them to turn on when your phone connects to the wifi, which will probably be a couple meters from your home. So the light is already on when you get home. Or you can program them to turn on and off at certain hours when you're off vacationing to simulate a presence.

  • *Dual boot (a duel is with weapons)

Are you on x11? Wayland oftens handles multi-monitor setups more gracefully. If wayland fixes it and you need x11, you would at least know where to start troubleshooting.

  • Suprisingly enough still playing Forspoken. I'm in this strange mood where it's weirdly cathartic to just play a good looking colectathon with flashy combat. I'm about 25 hours in and have uncovered about 30% of the map, and still having fun.

  • Should I be interested in this if I already use hardened Firefox?

  • Sable. No fighting. Just exploring and getting immersed.

  • What's your use case? If LibreTorrent is making your phone explode, you might want to run qbittorrent on a separate machine and use their web interface.

  • Yeah, now that I played it, if I had to put a price tag on it, it's more in the 30-40€ range

  • I've been playing Forspoken. If you treat it as a AA game it's actually really decent, if you're into ubisoft collectathon open world games.

  • Not binary in this context means, that there isn't two opposing choices (true or false, black or white, greedy or generous). We're rather looking at a scale in between opposing concepts.

  • That's an interesting question that has been been asked a lot in philosophy / theology.

My take is basically is, that the premise is already flawed. Negative traits are not binary. When does industriousness become greed, assertiveness become ego, etc...? Everything lives on a scale. So where is the cut off? Is there an objective cut off? Isn't rather someones industriousness someone elses greed? Then wouldn't the absence of all greed also kill all industriousness? In that case @treadful@lemmy.zip would probably be right, civilisation would have a hard time existing.

Islamic theology has a take on it, that I find more logical. Basically angels are like humans but without free will. So they do have all the traits humans do, but cannot act on it, except when deemed acceptable by a perfect being. That way they managed to create a perfect community.

  • You can set permanent passwords, that you can define yourself. Something like "Password1" shouldn't be too hard for most people.

EDIT: Also, now that I think about it, in your use case you would be the one entering the password. So your comment makes no sense...

  • According to DDG it's a Grub issue. There are a couple of things you could try by searching that error message.

  • On Organic Maps and surely Osmand as well, you can add additional waypoints to your route to force a specific one. That's the way I do it

  • We have a similar thing going. But my kids are getting to an age where they wanna use tiktok and post on insta. I think that beyond the privacy issues it's actually a mental health risk. My wife thinks being excluded from what their peers are doing is an even bigger health hasard.
