  • This whole thing is a perverted joke about our corrupted society. Billionaires drag each other to court over who gets to be even more of a billionaire while people working 2 jobs in that same fucking country can't make rent.

Redistribute those billions among the Tesla workers who actually did the work for fucks sake.

  • It's the same story as with PGP encrypted mail. It has existed for decades, is easy to use, but barely anyone does. It's nice that encrypted sms exists but what's the point if 99.999% don't care.

  • I doubt they would be able to. I was interested and looked around a bit. There's even a whole chapter in their documentation dedicated to adding extractors. First paragraph of that chapter is basically ''do not add piracy websites''

  • youtube-dl does something similar (it works on a lot more than just youtube). AFAIK each site needs a slightly altered code. You could have a look at the source on their github.

It might be as easy as forking the project and creating your own extractor.py.

  • I just finished Portal Revolution. Puzzles were high quality. Story, script and voice acting was meh. Now I'm playing Outriders, which I bought during the winter sale. Super mid game, very formulaic gameplay. Story and visuals are kinda cool.

  • Infiltrate them to track users like they already do now. And if your answer to that is ''VPN'', there are already countries where these are forbidden by law, what's to stop them from being outlawed in more countries in the future.

  • Does it work if you change your user agent?

  • I'm torn. I think everybody should fight back the predatory practices of the entertainment industry. But the more mainstream the piracy practices become, the more crackdown there's gonna be, and the more of a hassle it's gonna be to find pirated content.

  • I don't use jellyfin and I stopped using a raspi as media pc. My new media pc doesn't have an IR receiver so I use a mini bluetooth keyboard. While I used a raspi on my tv I had to dowload the correct IR package for the raspian distro I used and configured it. Or you could use Librelelec which has the IR support OOTB and check if there is a jellyfin plugin

  • I don't know if the NUCs have IR receivers OOTB, which you will need to use a standard remote. I know the raspberries have them.

For best compatibility with NUCs I would just google for which distro to use. You're definitely not the first person to use them as media PC. I use Nobara on my Beelink and everything worked OOTB, but that's different hardware. Once you have a distro running you have all the options of a PC to run Plex, Firefox, Spotify, etc...

  • My go to OS is Nobara KDE which is a gaming spin of Fedora. It has the best compatibility out of the box for my stuff. I'm sure other distros would word too tho.

Most used apps are Firefox for streaming, Steamlink for playing games from my gaming pc, Retroarch for psx and snes gaming and kodi to watch the content on my local network

Interaction is with a keyboard like this one

Downside is obviously that it is less plug and play than a commercial media product. You need to set up everything initially, you need to update it and sometimes an update breaks something and you'll need to fix it

Upside is awesome tho: no walled garden. It's your gadget. You can do anything you like with it. No app is gonna track anything you don't want

  • It just doesn't exist. You will need some kind of mini PC like Raspberry Pi. I Use a mini PC from Beelink.

If you just want a media station with some basic apps a Raspi with LibreELEC is perfect. Your TV remote will work out of the box and there are plugins for Netflix, Disney, etc... available.

If you want a little more, like a working browser and / or some light gaming I would suggest a full OS with a little beefier PC like the ones available at Beelink.

  • Everyone without exception has had moments of weakness where they lashed out at something or someone wrongfully. That's a bad deed but that can't be the definition of a bad person.

Especially in this context. The dude isn't really attacking the dev directly. He actually might just be venting. I wouldn't do that like that but you really can't assume anything from such a short exchange.

  • It's an age thing I think. My parents and their generation don't give a shit about that stuff because they'll be dead in 10-20 years anyway (their words). My gen and the ones after seem to be have more sensibility to that topic because they'll have to live in that dystopian hellscape.

  • You're a nicer person than I am. Being able to (lie and) say "no clue how that works on windows, I use linux" is a freaking blessing

  • As a previous avid Notepad++ user, I switched to Kate and have been very happy with it.
