  • "But if you offer all these old games to play, why would anyone bother buying the new stuff?" - some corpo director

  • It's pretty easy on PC, with Steam itself and itch.io being pretty good for indies. Earning enough money from your game is a different story...

  • Very true. I vaguely recall someone on another thread saying a game is "unplayable" if it's not running 4k resolution and that PC gamers with 4k monitors are the majority

  • Hi Okay, I'm Dad

  • Is there a SCP monster for EA or other big game company's marketing teams? Because they're a reality bending entity that creates unrealistic tasks that others are forced to do, despite knowing they won't manage AND will end up as lifeless husks either way

  • I'm over 30, but even when i was in my early 20s I couldn't stand the blaring lights. A HS friend built up a rig with full flashy RGB shit and I was like "why?" - He thought it was cool, possibly still does.

I mean, I'm supposed to look at the monitor, not the fan or the mouse. Keyboard blacklight is good, tho, so long as it's not red nor a dancing rainbow. Yellow or white are the best kb backlight imo

  • Won't be long for people to take that seriously and install raid sirens on corporate offices around USA or western Europe, to "ensure everyone understands the hardship of our colleagues"

  • Thanks to big corporations effectively owning governments and big politicians the world over, things aren't bound to get better anytime soon, because "the economy". Fuck that shit

  • One of the best cautionary tales for developers

  • Nah, the problem is that AI is only being used to generate static content, "finished" assets. Where are the npcs with organic dialogue and more realistic reactions to player input? That's the AI that I've seen being promised and not being delivered anywhere.

  • Having access to the raw materials is the hard part, depending on where you are. If the place your or any other tribes migrates around lacks the raw rocks, you're shit outta luck.

Copper and tin are relatively easy to work, as you can melt the metal into an earthen or sand mold. A furnace that can melt it isn't too hard to create. From that to a steam engine isn't that big of a jump, the Greeks figured that out but never thought about making it do labor.

Another hurdle is surviving long enough, as you wouldn't have access to sanitation or medicine.

  • Yet several cultures across the world developed means to drink milk and eat cheese. The mongols' fermentation process allows them to eat and drink despite being lactose intolerant, not to mention they make kumis from mare milk

  • Nah, he was an arrogant asshole, that was his biggest problem. "I'm too smart to be caught, so I'll do something even more likely to fail just to show how great I am!" - I mean, the whole "all according to keikaku" to take down L was super convoluted and he only had to make that shit up because he wanted to show off how much of a big deal he was by killing the fake L live on TV

  • Lelouch is fucking insufferable, so the comparison checks out

  • Showerthoughts @lemmy.world

I like these federated services being kinda "rough around the edges"
