So I'm no a fan of her ideas. I have however read a lot of her stuff mostly to refute a friend who was a fan.
That said she was very much against violence to achieve political or personal goals. She was however very ok with using money and economic power to achieve goals.
So buying a business to fire someone you don't like, shutting down a business to punish a town, etc. All completely ok in her book.
I wanted to like Surviving Mars so much but there was something so frustrating about how they implemented the domes. I'd come back to it every so often and give up in frustration.
For my state congressman during the primaries a guy knocked on my door and was ruining in the Democratic primary. Young guy who claimed progressive values. Creepy vibe.
I looked him up after and he had a failed bid as a republican congressman one state over. Republicans are trying to sneak in their own into democratic primaries and it's working.
I'll do the occasional 72 hour fast. A 24 hour fast once a month. These days I change the 72 hour to a 48 hour then blood test every hour or two until I see a blood sugar rise. That's when the body starts to cannibalize muscle tissue so I stop.
The DS9 writers would sometimes write a script that they knew would be approved and then give the actors "suggested improvised lines" for what they actually wanted.
Yeah the problem isn't the ideals being in there but how bad the story is makes the ideals seem like a cheap crutch.
Compare Brokeback Mountain to Ben and Arthur. Both movies about the relationship between gay men and society. Both say gay people should be treated fairly by socity but aren't. The first does it in interesting way with great storytelling and ideas. The later is a hamfisted mess.
I'm not going to say modern Trek is Ben and Arthur bad but it is much closer to Ben and Arthur writing then it is to Brokeback Mountain.
Having dealt with Sony for years as a engineer their non consumer hardware is a true pain. Trying to interface with some of their ccd image sensors was some of the most PITA integration i've ever dealt with.
Getting groups to go along with your stupid minor lies is the first step. That way when you start doing the bigger important lies they are already used to just going along with your lies.
This is straight from the authoritarian play book and Trump is not doing this without purpose.
So Musk owns twitter so there is no stock anymore. He does have loans for the purchase which are probably backed by his twitter ownership and his Tesla stock.
However there is another way to not have majority ownership and still have majority voting power. Google has class A and class B shares. Each class A share gets 10 votes and class B shares get 1 vote.
Only the founders of Google got class A shares and if they are transferred to anyone but another founder they revert to class B shares. So they have a minority ownership and a majority vote.
So yeah the bird was me. But back in the day there was linux with a bunch of config files and windows with the registry.
It could be a pain to deal with config files but it was nowhere near as bad a dealing with the gigantic mess that was the windows registry. So someone trying to move linux away from one of the things that made it better then windows to a windows like system seemed like a horrible idea.
Combine that with the main systemd guy coming off as a bit of a jerk online and the resistance is understandable.
I was in a swing district that had been republican. A conservative democrat took the seat for two terms. Then my are got packed into a democratic strong hold.
I now have one of the most progressive representatives in the house. I like him a lot better then my old rep but would rather have the 2 democratic votes in the house like before.
Garland was a republican and a compromise supreme court pick. The hope was republicans would hedge their bets and confirm him. Getting a guaranteed pick they liked in place of a possible Trump pick.
After Trump won Democrats should have dropped Garland like a ton of bricks. Instead they did what they usually do and went all on one their failed compromises position after Republicans failed to compromise.
Oh yeah she is a big fan of money makes right instead of might makes right.
