  • Back in highschool my friend managed to set his family pc's desktop to an animated gif of a woman getting a facial.

I got the most desperate phone call asking me to come over and help. I showed up and set it to normal about 1 min before his mom came home.

  • The Practice Effect. Physicist tests teleportation device and ends up in a world where using something makes it better.

So if you use a sled enough it eventually becomes frictionless thus they never invented the wheel. MC basically becomes a wizard using engineering.

  • It's a govt event that's invite only so they can kick him out. They can't prosecute him for what he said or prevent him from saying it elsewhere.

Still a shitty thing to do.

  • The everybody is a perfect logician part means no one gets it wrong and no one make a guess.

They also don't say the color of their eyes when they leave. They can just use logic to figure it out.

There are some other problems with this versions wording though. Usually you need to specify that the speaker doesn't lie.

  • Us is a big country and when we formed it could take days to get from states to the capitol. Legislators and leaders might be away from home for a year or more and needed to get their home situated.

So there is a lot of time between elections and assuming office in national positions. Results had to go from state to national, get certified, return the results, get your house in order, travel to DC, hire staff, and arrange housing (if congress).

It's also why 200 years ago the electoral college made sense. There wasn't time to hold runoff elections. These days with fast information and travel it's a garbage legacy system.

  • There is a big difference between knowing a persons reputation and knowing their actions. Sometimes a person with a bad rep does small things you pick up on that reinforces the feeling. But you still don't actually know enough to accuse them.

It's a big deal accusing a powerful person. They are usually going to deny it and people are going to ask for proof. If all you have is rumors and a feeling it only hurts you.

It took several women coming forward with what happened to them to get the public on their side. Imagine trying to accuse him when all you had was rumors.

  • As an engineer you learn to be very careful about what you say to non engineers.

    A trivial example.

What if we make change x?

It'll make some things harder and some things easier.

    One week later.

Why are you having problems? You said doing x would make things easier.

    More complicated example.

Can this be used for real time control?

    Define real time.

    Just answer the question.

I can't it's a bad question. I need to know what you are trying to control.

  • Cells make too many of them to not have a purpose. There is a large energy cost to manufacturing 10k-100k per cell. That's enough for selection to remove them if they were useless.

What's probably going on is they have an important but uncommon purpose. Like a fire extinguisher. They are in most buildings but a lot of people will never see a situation where one is needed.

  • In theory pretty good. I have solar that does about 80% of my daily use. Battery backup islanded to the solar for the fridge and freezer and the electronics in the gas water heater. Plus a few outlets in each room. I've got a gas range and induction burner so I can cook two ways.

Pretty much comes down to water and food. I've got about 4 days of water and maybe a month of food. If the water keeps flowing I can boil it as needed.

  • In the sense that it's two different but similar states.

I'm pretty sure we can say it's not actually spin now. Electrons have a charge and a magnetic field. If they are charged and spinning that world generate a magnetic field. So spin was used to describe the orientation of the field. The name for the state stuck
