  • There are a bunch of alternatives like Tildes and Raddle, but they are tiny in comparison. Lemmy is the place to be if you want a reddit-style platform.

  • Reddit has never been profitable and I don't see a reason why it would change now all of a sudden.

  • I'm pretty sure they won't need any help with that.

  • "You are on this council, but we do not grant you the rank of master."

  • Correction: The Thinkpad is not optional.

  • Finally some good news among all the recent doomerism.

  • This totally reads like a E-Mail you'd find on a random PC in Deus Ex.

  • More like "Cyka, what this annoying beeping sound? I turn it off." - "BLYYYYAAA"

  • The law allows recording of blood type among the DNA-related information that will be contained in a national database to be shared across agencies "to perform their functions and tasks."

That sounds even worse than what the title states.

Vietnam’s future identity cards will incorporate the functions of health insurance cards, social insurance books, driver's licenses, birth certificates, and marriage certificates, as defined by the amendment.

Imagine a single data breach eventually exposing all this information at once. What do you even do in this case, just assume a new identity?

  • I'm not saying I condone what he did, but I can understand it from his perspective. I'd probably do the same thing if there were a country responsible for ruining my life and health and I had the information to inflict some damage.

  • Can you really blame the man for picking sides after all the US has done to him personally over the years?

  • I generally agree, but there is absolutely no way that witch hunting is worse here than on reddit. There was a shitton of doxxing and people being very aggressive over minor things, like YouTube drama. Also the Boston Bombing incident? It's not even close.

  • My car insurance went up $1200 this year, which blows my mind. No reason given.

Damn, what the hell. I pay about 15% of that for comprehensive coverage here in Germany. I guess that evens it out with the cheap fuel that you guys have.

  • Yup, shreddit has the ability to use the csv from the data request. Took me about 24 hours to edit and erase the 20.000+ comments I made over the last 10 years.

  • It's been happening for the better part of a decade though. And started probably much earlier than that, just not as blatant.

  • My only regret is that I can only upboat this once, good Sir.

  • In February 2022, Navalny compared the recognition of the Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic by Russia to when Soviet leaders deployed troops to Afghanistan in 1979, describing both events as a distraction to the population from real issues. He said that he believes that while Putin will not allow Ukraine to develop, Russia will pay the same price, and that Putin needed to be removed to save Russia.

On 2 March 2022, Navalny urged Russian citizens to stage daily protests against Russia's invasion of Ukraine, saying Russia should not be a "nation of frightened people" and "cowards who pretend not to notice the aggressive war" launched by "our insane tsar".

If, to prevent war, we need to fill up the jails and police vans, we will fill up the jails and police vans. Everything has a price and now, in the spring of 2022, we should pay that price. — Alexei Navalny

Navalny would've been the preferable candidate in every regard. The list of reasons is literally too long to be summarized by a single comment.

  • They fell for the Russian disinformation campaign trying to paint Navalny as a far right nationalist and proponent of the Ukraine invasion, even though he repeatedly voiced his disapproval in recent years.

  • You usually use the public shower before entering the pool and wearing a burkini in there kinda defeats the point. For the same reason you're not allowed to wear anything other than regular swimwear.
