  • That's definitely fair. I'll admit its not the lightest on ram but it hasn't gone crazy on me yet. With that said, I'm running if on a home lab k3s, and haven't remotely flirted with running out of ram

I'm also using the hell out of it all the time, so I don't mind it using what needs right now.

FWIW, with 3000 links, my container users 787 MB of ram. I don't think that's crazy considering what it's doing during the archiving process

  • I actually don't think I agree. ICE has been increasingly militarized and distilled into a posse of yes-men thugs for a while. They finally got a leader that let's them act like the SS.

It was never a joke, and people now realize that.

  • I just made the switch this weekend. I have not had a single incompatibility yet. I have seen an oddity here and there in Helldivers 2, but nothing crazy.

Oddity 1: In normal windows play async issues sometimes happen where a player steps on a mine in the other person's client but not their own. They continue to play because their client doesn't mark them dead. To the other person, they appear as a person missing some number of body parts (sometimes just a floating torso). We call this torso mode.

Since switching to linux I have not seen my friend go torso mode a single time. He still sees me go torso mode.

Oddity 2: The artillery rounds are color coded for what each of them does. Since switching to linux they only appear silver for whatever reason. It's a nonissue, I just read them when I walk next to them. If anyone asks my character is colorblind.

    One additional note:

If you install steam with a flatpak, you're going to have to tangle with the permissions related to a flatpak. Once you add directory permissions for an additional directory via flatseal (for example, if you want a library on each of your harddrives), you won't have to touch it again and it's great.

Maybe these issues are significant to you, maybe they aren't. Ultimately, god I love my system starting up in just a few seconds. And having true control over it.

  • Alternatively, we will go extinct having never left this solar body because of the long standing history of scummy people that would rather make profit now than address climate change

  • It's a start, but 2fa can't stop spam.

If one can automate account creation including saving totp secrets, you suddenly have 2fa authenticated bots able to send spam.

Maybe you could get around that to some extent by leveraging sms verification during account creation, but how do you set that up to prevent burner numbers? Or smishing?

These are hard problems to address

  • I've been addicted to disc golf for a decade, and while I'm still not very good, I still enjoy every single round so much.

There's so much benefit to squeeze out of the sport:

    • hiking
    • humility
    • healthy competitive spirit
    • self control
    • decision making
    • sight seeing

Disc golf changed my life, and I hope others find their way to it too
